Colby

The amount of self restraint it took me to shove down the sparks of excitement that fluttered through my gut was admirable. I could feel adrenaline pulsing through my body at the shock I had gotten seeing Sam outside my window. But I had to channel it into something else. Which is why it was so fortunate Sam wanted to go to the abandoned wear house, which i'd always wanted to explore. It was like my sadness was completely erased, bubbles of euphoria traveling up my sternum and settling as a excited grin on my lips. Honestly I felt like I could levitate if I tried. I shivered a little in the cool twilight breeze, grateful for the warmth radiating off of Sam. I started rambling about how exited I was for this.

We ambled over to the small path on the side of the road, the moon shining a soft light as our feet crunched over leaves and sticks. I pushed through a few branches, holding one back for Sam as he walked being me. He seemed very quiet and nervous for once.

"Are you good man?"

Sam looked up, and breathed out a laugh.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just, man, this is scary." He shook his head.

"It's ok, I'll be right here next to you the whole time." Sam nodded, pushing through more branches, when suddenly, he stumbled, tripping over a large root on the ground.

"gahh-" I quickly reached out my arm and grabbed his hand, pulling him up.

"Anything hurt?" I asked, while he lent on me. He shook his head, embarrassed. "Ok," I started to walk forward again, leading him with my hand, making sure he wouldn't fall again. My heart started to thump again. "Shit" I breathed out.

"hmm?" Sam looked up from focusing on his foot placement.

"I touched a spiderweb" I lied, lifting my hand up to tussle my hair as if removing a web. I shook my head at my idiotic words.

Sam

"gahh-" My ankle twisted, catching on a protruding root that I had missed, and I felt my balance leave my body. A cold hand grabbed my arm, sliding his hand into mine and pulling me up. My stomach flipped, as I gasped at the unexpected contact, my face reddening. I straightened, expecting Colby to let go, but he didn't. His composure had completely flipped from earlier. Gone was the scared, upset quiet boy. He had been replaced with this confident, bubbly and easy going version of himself. I had seen these sides of him before but never this drastic of a change. He tugged on my hand,

"Anything hurt?" I shook my head, my head still slightly spinning. He continued on, and it was all i could do to move my feet one after the other. I had to focus on them so I didn't fall again. I had no idea why I was feeling so flustered. The idea of this abandoned wear house was having a bigger effect on my anxiety than I expected I guess.

"Shit" I heard Colby whisper from ahead of me, and confused, I lifted my head. I still couldn't seem to push words out of my mouth, so I opted for a vocalization.

"Hmm?" Colby ran his slim pale hand through his dark hair, his face contorting with annoyance.

"I touched a spiderweb" He muttered, shaking his head. On instinct I retorted,

"Well i'm gonna touch you." Colby turned at look at me with feigned horror in his eyes as I put my hands up in a grabby motion and started walking slowly towards him. he walked backwards. "Come here my prettyyy" I screeched as he turned and began to run, laughing.

"You can't touch this!" He yelled putting his finger in his mouth and touched it to his ass making a hissing noise. I began to chase him, yelling at him to come back or else. Our screeches and laughter could probably be heard out on the road, yet we didn't care. I felt like everything was ok again.
