Sam
Adrenaline shot through my body, electrifying me from my ears to my toes. Colby was staring at me, his worried expression scaring me.
"What the hell was that." I whispered, staring at Colby as if he'd have the answers.
His eyes scanned the forest around us, before peering down the hole we came through. He made a noise and quickly ducked back, pulling me back with him. I thudded onto the roof, my elbow scraping on the metal. I hissed in pain, clutching at Colby's arm which was splayed across me protectively. My heart pounded in my ears, feeling as though it was squeezing it's way out of my eyes, nose, ears and mouth. I choked on my breath, holding it, waiting for something, anything to happen.
I heard a bang. Colby and I jumped, peering down into the dark abyss of the warehouse. This time, I could make out a few shapes. There were three figures, one of them sat on the ground, the other two leering over them. I felt Colby tug on my hand, mouthing 'This way'. I followed, unable to think my own thoughts, my mind buzzing with what could be going on down there. Colby led me to the edge of the roof, as he leaned over, eyeing the bushes and expanse of the building. He spotted something, and dragged me over. He started to sit down.
"You want us to jump?!" I whisper shouted, terrified.
He looked back at me, determination in his eyes.
"It's our safest option," He says, before dropping right off the side.
My heart plummets to my feet as I rush to the edge to looks over, horrified at the prospect at what I may see.
But he was fine. He landed on a soft pile of freshly dug dirt, the only physical evidence being a few swiped of mud across his face. I breathed out, thanking whatever was up in heaven for this miracle. He turned to look up at me, whispering,
"Your turn Sam, don't worry, I'll catch you if you fall." I stepped forward, shaking from head to toe, my gut squeezing as I looked at the drop. I closed my eyes, breathing out, and then in. Out then in. I could do it. It was like a 5 metre drop thats all.
I crouched slowly, carefully, pulling my feet out over the edge, shuffling until my ass was just hanging on, then I pushed off, and for a moment, I was flying.
Then I was face first in a pile of dirt. I groaned, spitting out a clump of grass, and Colby grabbed my by my waist and hiked me up, before sliding his hand into mine and taking off, tearing through the fence and into the forest, not daring to look back. I stumbled behind him, practically getting dragged for a few seconds until I caught my footing and managed to catch up, over taking him as adrenaline made me high. We flew out of there, like bats out of hell, and soon enough, we wound up back at Colby's house. I was shaking, but I smiled, my brain loving the way my body was buzzing, the thrill of the chase, the concept of danger. I turned to Colby, breathless.
"Holy shit-" I grinned madly, and Colby looked up at me, slightly concerned, but I could see the smile that ghosted his lips.
"Do you think..?" He trailed off, leaving it open.
"I wonder what they were doing." I responded, not being able to work it out.
Colby paled.
"I think.. I think they were murdering someone." My eyes widened.
"S-surely not, why would you think that??" I stated, refusing to believe it.
"The gunshot, the figure, the freshly dug hole. It's just... Let's not go back there at night, ok?" I nodded.
"Yeah, yeah, not worth it, although I did really enjoy stargazing with you." Colby smiled softly, a pink flush covering his alabaster skin. I felt my own skin reddening.
