How do I write this?
You were expendable and you knew it. You were charged and convicted of committing [REDACTED] and were now suffering the consequences. Of all places, you last expected your sentence to lead you to an underground facility, deeper than the marina trench, to recapture a crystal one hundred rooms away.
While you expected the job to be oh-so-simple, you were oh-so-wrong. You encountered various monsters, specifically ones you've never seen. Things like deformed anglerfishes, viperfishes, blobfishes, bull sharks, scary squid things etc. Not once did you know there was an ecosystem under the surface.
And yet, as you walked through the once-bustling halls, you decided to open some drawers to check for loose assets. Of course, you found them, but as you turned around, you noticed the smallest movement. You simply shake the feeling off, continuing to the next room, only to loudly hear a noise behind you.
You jerk your head back, expecting a bench to have fallen over or see the wall crumble. You were half correct, only, a tall, limbless figure had fallen from the side of the wall. Before you could think, it jumped a little before quickly rushing off back. You simply shrug and continue to carry on with your mission, collecting more loose assets.
But the more rooms that opened, the more you couldn't help but feel a presence behind you. Every time you'd turn your head, you'd see the same limbless figure again. Each time you glanced at it, it would run away in fear. Were you truly that terrifying? You preferred not to think of yourself that way. Or maybe you did. You were in an abandoned facility, after all.
For some reason, you were angry at this figure. You shooed it away, ran faster, and stared at it for prolonged periods of time, yet you were met with a different reaction each time. It even cracked its mouth open, revealing an organic, fleshy lining.
"Go away." You stated firmly, shaking your flashlight at it. The creature didn't respond. It still kept its distance, yet it tilted its head to the side slightly. You took another step forward, only to realise it took another step.
"I said go!" You snapped, shaking your flashlight again. The creature attempted to mimic your movements without limbs but you couldn't help but be frustrated.
"Don't mimic me!" You hissed, grabbing the closest stapler and hitting it in the head firmly. It squealed slightly before hissing and running off. Finally, you were at peace.
But it couldn't get enough of you, couldn't it? It seemed determined to aggravate you now, following you around like a lost dog. The loud footsteps were driving you insane as you began to reach the fortieth door. Yet, you couldn't help but be intrigued by such an unknown specimen.
So, you decided to wait, allowing the curious creature to walk up. It tilted its head while making clicking noises. Despite you and the creature being a couple of feet apart, you noticed the small features on its body, like its fleshy yet firm skin that blended within the walls.
You took a smaller step closer, hoping not to aggravate the creature too. With no reaction, you took another small step, and another, and another, until you were a foot away from the creature. It was quite tall, with its ominous figure looming over you, yet it didn't seem to mind. By all means, it looked satisfied.
You slowly began to circle the creature, noticing even smaller features. The back of the creature was enough to give anyone with trypophobia a heart attack. You didn't expect it to drip with acid as some fell onto your uniform. Worse yet, it burned like a bitch. You could feel your skin react to the strong substance as you gasped in pain.
Quickly, you tried to shake the acid off. The blistering skin was a horrible site, and the creature could do nothing but observe your reaction. It had no limbs so what else could it do-
You took a step back, clutching your arm and glaring at the curious figure. You were too frustrated and hurt to care about the lights flickering. As the creature tried to approach you again, you smacked it away harshly. Of course, it didn't enjoy that.
It kicked you down to the ground, digging its foot into your stomach. You hissed in pain and attempted to wriggle your way out of the situation. Instead, it began to smash its head against your skull, trying to rip the flesh off your bone with its teeth, only to be rudely interrupted by a loud screech through the hallways. Your vision only cut to black as you and the wall dweller were scooped into the jaws and violently gnashed upon pinkie.
Both you and the wall dweller died that day. You didn't even meet Sebastian after your death. That sounds like a skill issue to me, though.
You were expendable, after all.
I like wall dwellers. They seem adorable to an extent.
