Taylor stripped off her clothes and stepped into the shower, turning the dial to hot, then hotter, and as her skin turned a gentle pink she turned it hotter. She stood, breathing harsh breaths and tried to disappear in the steam.

She flinched, startled by a call from outside the bathroom door - "Taylor?"

"Yeah?" she said back, her voice breaking. She cleared her throat and tried again, louder this time, "Yes?"

"Just checking you're okay," Travis answered. Taylor stuck her head out from under the water to hear better. "You've been in there a while."

"Sorry," Taylor replied, reaching back to turn off the shower. Goosebumps sprouted up all along her skin and she began to shiver, the air turning colder as the steam began to clear.

She found herself standing in front of the basin with a towel wrapped around her when Travis spoke again, "Can I come in?" She assumed he'd left. She waddled over to the door, opening it with her shaky hand.

"Woah, I think you forgot to turn on the fan," Travis chuckled, looking around. Taylor followed his eyes, cringing at the sight of the water droplets all over the room. "How hot was the water?" He was now looking at her, frowning at the pink tone.

"I dunno, I like it warm," Taylor said nervously, moving to the sink to brush her teeth. She stared at her reflection, trying to ignore the feeling of Travis' eyes on her.

"What's wrong?"

"Why do you always jump to thinking something's wrong?" Taylor snapped, though she instantly rolled her eyes at the stupidity of her own question, and harshly started brushing her teeth. Though it's true, he often assumes something's wrong, he's also mostly right.

Travis frowned, mistaking the eyeroll to be aimed at him. "Why do you do this?"

"What?"

Travis huffed, shaking his head. "Nevermind. It's nothing."

"No," Taylor took the toothbrush out and spat into the sink, before turning around to look at him. "What do I do?"

Travis looked at her, contemplating whether to answer or not. "You-" he stopped himself quickly and sighed. "I don't want to get into an argument right now. You're clearly not okay and I don't want to make it worse," he said, his voice softer than before.

"I'm fine. Just tell me what you were gonna say." Taylor spoke.

Travis tilted his head to the side, watching her through incredulous eyes. "Are you hearing yourself?"

Taylor scoffed, shaking her head. "God. You're so fucking patronising sometimes."

"The fuck?" Travis exclaimed. "You know what," he stated, throwing his arms up, "I'm not doing this." And with that, he walked out, slamming the door closed behind him.

Taylor stood frozen for a moment, her eyes on the door, incredulous. After a moment, she scoffed, and started brushing her teeth again.

Once Taylor had procrastinated in the bathroom for as long as she could, she stood with her hand on the door handle, in her pyjamas. She dropped her head against the door, taking a deep breath in. She had gone over their interaction a million times trying to figure out what happened, to no avail. And the anxiety that pruned in the shower had returned worse than before.

Slowly, she turned the handle and opened the door. There he was, sitting on the bed, watching her. She hovered under the doorway.

Taylor stood there, waiting until it became too awkward to endure. "I don't understand what just happened," she spoke.
