ᴀᴜᴛʜᴏʀ'ꜱ ɴᴏᴛᴇ: i miss ayato like a mf rn *angrily shakes drink* ( •̀ - •́ )y/n sniffled quietly, wiping away the stray tears that streaked her cheeks as she walked briskly away from the house. she fumbled with her jacket, clumsily slipping her arms through the sleeves and zipping it up to hide her school uniform. the cool breeze nipped at her face, but she hardly noticed. her mind was a whirlwind of emotions, and her feet carried her aimlessly. as she pushed through the gate and rounded the corner of her block, the sound of her front door creaking open and several voices calling out made her freeze. panic rose in her chest as she glanced over her shoulder. she quickly ducked into the nearest alleyway, pressing her back against the rough brick wall and holding her breath.
"y/n! where are you?" her mother's voice rang out, strained with worry.
"she couldn't have gone far," saitō's calm yet determined tone followed.
"well, go find her then!" miss iku snapped, her irritation cutting through the tension like a knife.
"we can cover more ground if we all help," her father interjected, his voice firm yet weary.
miss iku groaned audibly. "fine, but this is ridiculous..." she muttered, clearly displeased. meanwhile, y/n clenched her jaw, her chest tightening as the voices grew closer. she couldn't face them right now—any of them. the arguments, the tension, and the overwhelming guilt had pushed her to her breaking point. she just needed to breathe, to be alone, to find her footing again. she stayed pressed against the wall, her heart pounding as she waited for their footsteps to fade into the distance. after what felt like an eternity, silence fell once more. cautiously, y/n crept out of her hiding spot, peeking around the corner to ensure no one was nearby before she made her move.
she headed down the street, her pace quick but purposeful, the ache in her chest slowly dulling as she put more distance between herself and her house. her mind drifted to a place she'd been recently—buraza town. the last time she was there, she had unexpectedly bumped into ayato at his work. it hadn't been that long ago, yet it felt like a lifetime with everything that had happened since. maybe buraza would give her the space she needed to think, to calm down. y/n pulled her hood further down, her fingers trembling as she sniffled, trying and failing to stifle her quiet sobs. the weight of the day pressed heavily on her shoulders, and though the streets weren't too crowded, she felt utterly exposed.
as she walked down the sidewalk, wiping at her damp cheeks, her attempts to remain unnoticed were futile. a couple walking hand in hand paused, glancing her way. the woman's eyes widened in recognition, and she subtly elbowed her partner. "is that—?" she whispered, her phone already in hand to snap a quick photo.
farther down, a pair of teenagers on a bench noticed her too, their conversation halting as they focused on her hunched figure. one of them tilted their phone slightly, pretending to scroll while capturing her image. "no way...that's y/n. what's she doing here?"
