Well, Anna sure did decide that moving away and starting a new life away from her past would surely be the best option. As she packed, she tried not to let her mind wonder to any thoughts of Conner. Man, he was abusive though. He had pretended to be a nice guy for so long that he had almost had her fooled. She was not anybody's fool of a girl, and she would never be anybody's girl again. Okay mind, "That's enough!" She yelled it so hard in the inner core of her brain that she had almost thought that she had said it aloud. Looking around awkwardly, she wondered silently if anyone else had heard.
The cabin was always quiet, but today it was creepily so. Yes, she has a mom but is old enough herself to live on her own. Her mom, Lynn, was a workaholic anyways. She was probably in the living room next to her room. Lynn was always good at tuning Anna out ever since she was young. She was probably sending a fax to some low down business man, and she sure did not have a clue of what her own daughter was going through. Anna had tried to open up to her about things when she was younger, but now that she was older she used logic to realize that it was no use. Her mom did not care about her. Besides, who ever said that she couldn't make it on her own. She was determined to prove that she can face this big world and make it big time, all by herself.
Anna liked fashion yet she was not big on looking perfect all the time. Being a perfectionist had led her to this lowly way of life anyways. The word perfect should just be removed from her vocabulary. Now she had another unperfected thing to look back upon. This past would haunt her down for the rest of her life, she was sure of it. She was scared of the world, but totally ready to go. She had a suitcase full of all the clothes she owned. There were undergarments, 1 pair of jeans(she did not wear jeans much anymore for she was changing her style), 4 long skirts, 5 colorful tops, a journal she always carried along with her, and of course her cell phone. She lugged the suitcase down the stairs and out the door without her mom even noticing. Anna knew for a fact that her mom did not care, never did, and never will. This was just another act to prove the case. Anna did not care. She had lived with rejection all her life. She was so used to it that it did not even make her pause. She was ready and her mind screamed at her to get going. It is better to be on the move, it kept emphasizing to her over and over again.
She was not running away, at least not from her home. If anything, she was running away from her problems. Anna decided to just leave and shoot her mom a text later. It would be all right. In fact, her mom would probably be happy at the prospect of her daughter leaving the nest. Anna was convinced that when her mom found out how happy she was with her new life, she would be even happier with it all. This plan was amazing. It was going to work out. Anna could feel it in her bones.
Wow, Anna looked at the clock on her cell phone. Good luck must have struck. It was just in time for the 2 pm bus route. She walked about a mile and the bus was right where it was supposed to be. Anna lugged her suitcases and barely paused. Yes, she was nervous, but this was something she really had to do. It was not an option. She said a quick prayer to the Someone up in the sky. She hoped it would work. She really needed the help. She was really going; She was really on the bus. It was all so real, so true. She was really ready to feel the fresh air of a new life. It can only get better from here, she managed to convince herself.
As the bus rolled on, she dozed off, for she was in desperate need for a nap. All the stress had tired her out so much, make that a long nap. As she dreamed on, random strangers often gazed upon her face. She was a real beauty. Her hair was long and golden and her face was the perfect shape and radiated a brilliant light. She was obviously intelligent. She was skinny too, and seemed to have a good sense of style. While others often envied her looks, Anna knew that she could never think well of herself. Self-esteem had never been her strong point either. Now that the past had happened, that would be even harder. Her character was pretty good. It would be a while before she could even develop trust in her self again though. She dreamed good, big dreams about the new city and new college she would be visiting soon. Maybe this could be the city where her dreams might start coming true again, or was that too much to hope?
As Anna awake, she yawned, making sure to cover her mouth like a lady. It was natural. If being ladylike was a talent, she was very talented. Blinking her eyes a few times, she looked out the windows. It looked clear and a lot closer to her final destination than she had originally though. She was hungry, but did not want to blow the little money she had with her. She had to wait anyways. To pass time, she took out her journal. The leather cover was wrinkled with use. It was her favorite journal though. She took out a pen, tapped her leg as she thought, and wrote down all her random thoughts. The city she wanted to move to was Chicago. It was going to be wonderful. She wrote down all her hopes, and dreams, and fears. The fears haunted her and sent a shiver down her spine.
Time had passed quickly. The bus was slowing down. Moments later, she was on the sidewalk surrounded by people. It was sure a crowded city. If she could stand the first day, than she could deal with it and even learn to enjoy it. It was different than her peaceful homeland, but it was a good different. Different is what she needed. Anna had done it! She had moved. It was a big step to a plan that should become a great adventure. She was looking forward to anything and everything that could and would happen. She would always make sure that it was good. A good new life was to come. She was so sure of that. She never stopped to think about the possibility about anything ever even trying to go wrong.
Welcome to Chicago!!
