Hello! Hello! I hope you are all well!!

I have to say that this week has not been very good for me in terms of writing, I ran out of time, I have some cats and one of them has a kind of spinal injury and I had a doctor's appointment.

Anyway, this chapter contains, I don't know how to explain it in "appropriate" words, amateurism. I think that sometimes people forget that a high school relationship is different from an adult relationship and how this relationship can change, I talk about this, but in a kind of confusing way (I think), but if you have any questions, let me know in the comments, as well as if there are any grammatical errors.

I hope you like it!!

The smell of fresh coffee and freshly baked bread filled the air, filling Sam Winchester's small bakery in the city center. The bell above the door jingled with each new customer, and the pace of Saturday morning was busy but cozy. Sam, now 27, moved nimbly behind the counter, a small smile on his lips. He loved Saturday mornings; working at the bakery calmed him down and, even better, it was the day he spent with his nephew, Ben. The bakery stayed open until noon, which allowed Sam to balance his work as a freelance lawyer with his passion for cooking. Ben, the five-year-old son of his older brother, Dean, spent Saturday mornings with his uncle. Today, the little boy was sitting on a bench in the back of the store, devouring a chocolate donut with a dirty but happy face.

Sam had changed a lot since high school. At 6'4", he had an imposing presence that drew attention, his body was stronger, with well-defined muscles, the result of years dedicated to the bakery routine and the gym. He wore a tight black t-shirt, whose rolled-up sleeves revealed a series of intricate tattoos that covered part of his arms, his brown hair was longer and messier, falling slightly over his eyes. A discreet piercing shone in one of his eyebrows, a detail that added a rebellious touch to his look.

But as much as Sam had changed—his tattooed arms, his muscular body, his confident stance—there was something inside him that remained stuck in the past. A part of himself that he thought he had left behind, but that, from time to time, would surface in his mind.

Ben looked at Sam, wiping his mouth on a napkin Sam had given him when he started eating the donut, and asked, his eyes shining with anticipation:

— Uncle Sam, can I help you decorate the cupcakes later?

— Of course, champion, but only if you don't eat all the frosting first.

Ben chuckled, turning his attention back to the donut. For Ben, Saturdays were the best days.

The bell above the door jingled again, and Sam glanced up reflexively. A shiver ran down his spine. Castiel Novak entered the bakery with his typical calm demeanor, but what really caught Sam by surprise was the figure beside him.

Gabriel Novak.

Time seemed to have stopped for a brief moment. Gabriel, Castiel's older brother and Sam's first love, had had a relationship in high school years ago, when Sam was in his first year and Gabriel in his last. The romance was discreet, they didn't hide it, but they didn't make a point of publicizing it either. They had ended it naturally, without any hurt feelings or regrets. They were both young and immature, with different paths ahead of them; Gabriel had gone to college, while Sam still had two years of high school to complete. There were no fights, just a mutual understanding that they weren't ready for a long-distance relationship, but now, with Gabriel there, a promise made years ago, when they broke up, came back to Sam's mind: if they ever met again and there was still something between them, they would try again.
