Chapter 2: New Probie

After 3 months of training and working a part time job, so he could buy food for him and his kid plus school supplies and clothes.

Eddie finished the training with success. He was top of the class, as he already knew some stuff from when he was a soldier. Training was not hard for him, which resulted him have the most marks from the whole academia.

A lot of captains were fighting for him to be in their station, but captain Bobby Nash, persuade him to join the station 118.

Eddie was nervous for his first day at the station. He stayed in the bed contamplating whether he go or stay in bed. He barely slept the whole night only getting 3 hours of sleep.

The alarm went off, notifying Eddie it was 5:30.

He dragged himself out of the bed, and went to take a shower. He spent few minutes under the warm water to come to his scences, as he was still tired.

After the shower he mage his way back to his room to dress in his new uniform, which had been placed ready on the the drawer from the day before.

He looked at the watch seeing it was 6:30.
"Already" he groan, as he made his way to Chris room to wake him and so he get dress to school.

Chris was heard yawning from the kitchen as Eddie was making Chris lunch and a coffee for himself. After a while Chris got in the kitchen.

"Good morning buddy" Eddie head to Chris to give him a hug.

"Good morning dad."

"Go take your cereal before it gets late."

"Ok"

Chris made his way to the counter, sitting on the stool he started eating the cereal. Eddie took his coffee and packed Chris lunch, while Chris was still eating.

"I'm ready, dad."

"Good, come on let's go cause is getting a bit late."

Eddie put everything in the so he can wash them after work. Grabbing Chris bag, they head out to the van.

That morning, the traffic was surprisingly at ease, so Chris made in time for school.

"Have a great day at school." Eddie crotching down to hug Chris again.

"Good luck for your first day dad, don't be scared, you are gonna do well."

"Thanks buddy, but I'm not scared."

Chris looked at Eddie with an expression that he knew his dad was lying.

"Okay maybe a bit."

Chris soften his look and looked straight in Eddie's eyes. "Don't be dad everything will be great, you will be great."

"I feel like we're changing roles here."

Chris and Eddie laughed at that.

"Okay now I seriously need to go, cause I'm gonna be late, and also should you. Your gonna be late for the first lesson."

"Love you dad."

"Love you too, Chris."

They hugged again before Chris went in the school. Eddie stayed watching Chris getting in school to make sure that everything was okay.

He went back in the van and made his way to the station, turning on the radio so he don't get lost in his thoughts.

By now the traffic had pick up well and was worried he'd be late for work.

But fortunately enough he made it just on time. Eddie parked near the entrance.

Looking at the station entrance he was having a small panic attack. "Come one Eddie, get yourself together. You can do this." hyping himself up grabbing his bag from the front seat and got out of the car.

Taking a deep breath, he got in. Everyone was smiling at him, and that made him at ease.

"You must be Eddie diaz." Captain Bobby Nash was standing in the middle of the fire house.

"Yes I am." Eddie said a bit shy.

"I'm captain Bobby Nash, you will be with my team, A-shift." Hand out a hand to Eddie to shake it.

Eddie did the same thing. "Nice to meet you captain Nash."

"You can call me cap or Bobby, no need of formality in here. You can go get dressed in the locker room, and after that I'll introduce you to the rest of the the team.

Eddie went in the locker room to put his stuff in his locker and get dressed. After a while he went up the loft, where the rest of the team were.

"Guys may I have your attention."

The 3 firefighters all turned their gaze to Bobby and the new guy standing beside him.

"So this is Eddie diaz, he is the new probie I was talking about a few days ago. He was in the army as a medic and now he is joining us here as a firefighter."

Bobby than turned to Eddie to introduce the team. "That's Chim, that's Hen and that's Buck."

Chim and Hen both set up and walked to him.

"Welcome to the team." Hen said.

"It was getting quite boring only the four of us." Chim said, getting glares from the other 3, especially Buck.

Buck didn't like the idea of have someone new in the team. He thought that he would be left out if that happens.

Eddie noticed how Buck didn't say a word the whole time, but didn't want to mantion it. Maybe buck was having a bad, but did he see him giggling with the other two before cap stoped.

The bell rang just as they were gonna start eating. Eddie's thoughts about buck all flew away with the ringing of the bell.

Everyone got dressed and head to the trucks. Eddie sat infront of Buck, which Buck didn't like it at all. They spent the whole way to the call in silent, only talking when cap gave them the information about the next call.
