Riva fell for Trellis the second she saw the prince. But she never admitted it, because she could see the way he stared longingly at the redhead human, eyes tracing her every outline with relish. The way he stood and smirked in admiration every time she practiced with her amulet. He always made every touch she gave him count. If Emily accidentally brushed her hands against his arm, Riva could see him inhale slightly and grin. When they held hands, Trellis blushed and gripped her hand tighter. Riva, rather than burn with jealousy and try to ruin the blooming relationship, nodded and took Emily aside.

"That's a good boy you got there," Riva started.

"What?" Emily arched an eyebrow.

"Trellis." Riva took a deep breath. "The prince is in love with you, Emily."

Emily snorted. "If anything, he's in love with you."

Riva shook her head sadly. She knew better than to get her hopes up. He never even cast her a second glance. And when he did look at her, he looked right back at Emily after. "Sadly not."

Emily hardened her gaze. "Why are you telling me this, if you like him?"

"Because I have no chance with the elf, for he is too engulfed in you." Riva twiddled her thumbs. "It is pointless for me to try to dissuade him from his feelings."

"How do you know he has feelings for me? You aren't lying?" Emily questioned.

"Never do I lie. Ever feel like somebody is watching you? It's Trellis. Always scanning you, looking for a fault. He can find none. He adores you, loves your personality. Fiery temper?" Riva listed them off on her fingers. Emily's face grew hot. "Check. Yet, you're sweet, and Trellis needs that. Check. Calm and collected. Check. Probably great for snuggling and snogging. Check. You have great childbearing hips-"

"That's enough," Emily coughed. Her face was as red as her hair. "So if I asked Trellis, he'd tell me yes?"

"If he's not a coward."

Emily sighed. "I'm really not focusing on boys at the moment. I'm supposed to be saving Alledia, not worrying about if some elf Prince is checking me out."

Riva pursed her lips. "A word of advice."

"Hmm?"

"Kiss him in front of everyone. He'd like that, being arrogant and all."

Emily smirked. "That is, if he really likes me."

"Do you like him back?"

Emily hesitated. "...yes. Most certainly."

"Kiss him. What's the worst that can happen?"

Emily fidgeted. "He can kiss me back."

Riva smiled and welcomed the tiny girl flying into her arms and hugging her, holding her close.

Riva was getting ready to leave the members of the Luna Moth, go back to Lucien. Trellis was standing right there, looking into the dawn. Riva felt a shiver go down her spine and felt an urge to run over. But she didn't. She just walked over and tapped him on the shoulder.

"Riva." He greeted her. She hated the way he said her name, like it meant nothing to him. Just a random name, not belonging to anyone special.

"Trellis, I." She bit her lip, what about Emily?

"Spit it out," he said. This was the little brat she had spent weeks mooning over?

"I hate you!" She yelled. He looked a bit taken aback. "IhateyouIhateyouIhateyousofreakingmuch!"

Trellis nodded and turned back to the dawn. She clenched her fists. She still liked him, but... she deserved better. Emily deserved better. Boys were frigging stupid.

"I'm sorry."

"What?" She looked up at him.

"I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings. I know you liked me, and I'm sorry. You deserve a lot better, but if I liked you back I would not be true to myself. I love the Hayes girl."

"I know," she said. He knew. The whole time.

"Do you think she likes me back?" Trellis whispered.

"Probably." Riva rolled her eyes. "Who can't resist an elf Prince?"

Trellis sighed and looked down at his feet.

And the conversation was done, Riva decided. She kissed his cheek and ran off.

Trellis watched her run off, feeling horrible for hurting her, but he knew it was best.

Riva watched the members join Trellis on the deck from the shadows. She bit her lip. Karen was laughing her loud laugh as usual, and Coglsey and Miskit conversed. Vigo talked silently to Leon, who casting glances behind them.

All of a sudden, Trellis turned abruptly as a red blur ran up the to him. He watched her snatch her up in a rush, sweeping her off her feet, clasping her tightly to his chest as they smashed their lips together. Riva sighed. A cheer of applause went up, and Riva halfheartedly clapped with them. Trellis was fierce, kissing her and then immediately coming back for more, hungry for affection. His hands flew wildly through her hair.

Riva slung her backpack over her shoulder and began to walk away.  She didn't need to see this. But she heard them part with a gasp, and turned back to look. Emily was giving Riva the thumbs up sign.

Riva somehow found herself smiling.
