As Ellie and Jake strolled towards the bustling cafeteria, Ellie couldn’t help but notice the familiar faces of her classmates. Some had always kept their distance, yet today they greeted her with casual smiles and laughter as if the past had never happened. Upon entering the spacious cafeteria, a vibrant hive of activity unfolded before them. Students and teachers congregated to share meals and engage in lively conversation.

The walls were painted a cheerful yellow, radiated warmth and positivity, and were decorated with colorful posters and student artwork that added to the inviting atmosphere. Long tables were arranged in neat rows, each laden with hungry students enthusiastically devouring their packed lunches. The air hummed with the sounds of animated chatter and the occasional clink of cutlery against plates, creating a symphony of school life.

A small counter near the entrance bustled with activity as staff served up hearty lunches for those who had forgotten to bring their own. The aroma of warm food filled the air, mingling with the laughter and chatter that surrounded them, making the cafeteria feel alive.

Ellie, impeccably poised and used to the finer things in life, gracefully maneuvered through the crowd. With a sense of ease, she purchased lunch for both herself and Jake, and they settled down at a table, ready to enjoy their meal. With every bite, Ellie exhibited her refined upbringing, her mannerisms elegant and deliberate. Jake sat across from her, admiring her poise while a sharp pang of jealousy twisted within him. Deep down, he resented the seemingly perfect life Ellie led, feeling undeserving of such privilege.

Raised in a comfortable but average family, Jake appreciated their stability yet couldn’t shake off the envy that shadowed his heart—growing stronger as he relied on Ellie’s money. After finishing her meal, Ellie excused herself with a polite smile and made her way to the restroom. As she approached the door, she overheard two girls engaged in an animated discussion, their whispers momentarily pulling her curiosity from her thoughts.
