Felix blinked, squinting as the bright, sterile lights overhead assaulted his eyes. The hospital room slowly took shape around him—a dull, white ceiling with specks of gray, a plain clock ticking quietly on the wall, and a monitor beeping softly in rhythm with his heartbeat. A dull ache throbbed at the back of his head, and his limbs felt as though they were weighed down with lead.

He lay still, the unfamiliar setting sinking in. He was in a hospital. But how? He reached for the hazy memories of stumbling down a city street, the world tilting around him, the sudden rush of dizziness that had left him gasping for air. Everything beyond that was a blur, as if he'd been wrapped in a fog.

Felix turned his head slowly, the ache in his neck protesting as he moved. That's when he noticed her—Josephine. She was seated beside him, hunched over in a chair, her head resting on her folded arms. Her face was turned slightly toward him, her brow furrowed even in sleep, as though she'd spent the last few hours deeply worried. Loose strands of hair framed her face, shadowed in the soft glow of the overhead lights. The sight of her stirred something in him, a mixture of relief and confusion that tightened his chest.

He swallowed, his throat parched, and his voice came out hoarse and cracked. "Josephine?"

At the sound of his voice, she jerked awake, eyes widening with a sudden alertness. Her gaze snapped to him, relief flooding her features as she exhaled a shaky breath.

"Oh my gosh, Felix!" Her voice trembled as she spoke, and she leaned closer, studying him as if checking to see if he was truly there, truly awake. "You're awake... I was so worried." Her fingers gripped the edge of the bed, knuckles white. "One of my friends found you collapsed on the sidewalk. They called an ambulance and let me know right away. I came as soon as I could."

Felix nodded slowly, feeling the words sink in. He remembered the street, the strange sensation of his body failing him, the creeping blackness at the edges of his vision. He shifted slightly under her gaze, uncomfortable with the raw vulnerability her concern stirred in him.

"I... I'm fine," he mumbled, his tone flat, gaze dropping to the blanket pooled over his chest. He could feel her studying him, looking for something more, but he didn't dare meet her eyes.

Josephine tilted her head, her expression a mixture of confusion and concern. "Are you sure?" she asked gently, a hint of worry lacing her voice. "You don't... you don't sound fine, Felix. Do you remember what happened?"

Felix hesitated, the events of the previous night swimming to the surface. The date with Samantha, the painful sight of Josephine and Ryan, the storm of emotions that had overwhelmed him. But he couldn't tell her that—not here, not like this. Instead, he shifted uncomfortably, a brief flash of irritation sparking within him, mingling with the exhaustion that weighed on his bones.
