Amara couldn't shake the feeling that her life had somehow changed after that first conversation. As she went about her daily routine, she caught herself checking her phone more often, hoping to see a new message from Karim. And when she did, a warmth spread through her, a feeling both comforting and exciting.

Tonight, she lay on her bed, the soft glow of her phone lighting her face as she typed back to him. The sun had already set in Manila, casting the city in hues of orange and pink, but it was still bright in Algiers.

"So, what's something only locals know about Algiers?" Amara asked, her fingers lingering over the screen as she awaited his reply.

A moment later, Karim's message came through.

"Ah, that would be Martyrs' Memorial. Tourists see it, but they don't feel it the way we do. It's not just a monument; it's a reminder of everything we fought for. It stands tall, like it's watching over the city."

He sent a picture—taken at sunset, the towering structure illuminated against the sky. Amara traced the edges of the monument on her screen, imagining what it would be like to stand there, looking out over his world.

"It's beautiful," she replied. "In a way, it reminds me of Intramuros. It's an old district here, a place that carries history and stories. I think you'd like it."

They exchanged stories about their cultures, sharing little pieces of their worlds that neither had known before. Karim told her about the festivals and the music that filled the streets of Algiers, while Amara shared tales of Manila's bustling markets and street food, the scents and sounds of her city painting pictures in his mind.

As the nights went on, they began asking each other deeper questions. Their casual exchanges turned into conversations that went beyond the surface—hopes, fears, dreams. Karim shared how he felt torn between staying in Algiers with his family and exploring the world beyond, while Amara confessed how she sometimes felt lost, wondering if she was chasing the right dreams.

One evening, Karim asked a question that took Amara by surprise.

"Do you ever wonder if there's a reason we met? Like, of all the people in the world, why us?"

Amara's fingers froze above the keyboard. She hadn't let herself think that far, but maybe he was right. Maybe, in a world of billions, their paths had crossed for a reason she didn't yet understand.

"Maybe it's just luck," she typed, adding a small smile. But in her heart, she felt something more—a quiet certainty that he wasn't just anyone, and that their connection went deeper than a simple message.

As their conversation stretched into the early hours, Amara felt a sense of closeness that defied the miles between them. She didn't know what the future held or where this journey would lead, but for now, she was content to stay up late, talking to a boy on the other side of the world who somehow felt closer than anyone she'd ever known.
