Capricorn's POV

The beach was everything I expected it to be-chaotic, loud, but strangely invigorating. People laughed and joked around the bonfire, enjoying the warmth of the fire, the cool breeze, and the laughter that rang through the evening air. But I couldn't stop watching Virgo. She wasn't part of the group's easy banter, her focus turned inward, like she was processing the new world around her. Something about the way she carried herself-so composed yet so out of place-was undeniably... intriguing.

I tried not to let it show, but every time she spoke, every time she moved, I caught myself paying attention more than I should. It was irritating how she could make a casual gesture seem so graceful, how she made everything look effortless, when in reality, it was all just... natural for her.

But no matter how often I found myself glancing her way, I couldn't forget the first time I'd met her. She had called me "cold" in the middle of some pointless debate, as if I wasn't aware of it already. And still, even though we were constantly at odds, I couldn't deny the attraction that simmered underneath my cool exterior.

---

"Why are you always so difficult?" Virgo's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

I raised an eyebrow. "Difficult?" I repeated, a smirk tugging at the corner of my lips. "I'm just being practical. Some of us prefer things to be in order."

She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest. "Order doesn't mean being a stick in the mud."

I felt my patience thin. "Well, someone has to keep this group from becoming a circus."

She sighed, clearly getting frustrated, but there was something else in her gaze-a hint of amusement. She didn't take me as seriously as I wanted her to. And that was irritating.

Around us, the others were getting distracted by the sudden appearance of Pisces' powers. The moment the water began to swirl in the air, everyone crowded around her, eager to witness something that, to them, was a magic trick. I didn't share their enthusiasm, though I kept my eyes on the display. Still, my attention kept slipping back to Virgo. She was standing a bit farther away, eyes narrowed as she watched Pisces with mild interest.

"You think you can control the waves like Pisces?" Leo asked me, grinning like an idiot.

I looked at him, a little too coldly, but he didn't seem to care. "I don't need to control the waves," I replied, voice flat. "I'm not the one showing off."

But secretly, I wasn't sure why I cared so much about keeping my distance. Maybe it was because everyone else was too eager to get involved, while I was trying to keep myself contained. A part of me didn't want to give into the chaos. But that part of me also wanted to watch Virgo from the corner of my eye, to see how she responded, to gauge if her subtle charm was intentional or just part of who she was.

---

"That's pretty impressive, Pisces!" Cancer exclaimed, clapping her hands. Her voice was bright, full of admiration. It made the entire group's energy shift, turning the moment into something fun and lighthearted.

I allowed my gaze to wander to Scorpio, who was observing quietly from the sidelines, his serious expression in place as always. He caught my gaze for a moment and gave me a brief nod, almost like a silent acknowledgment of the way things were playing out. Despite my constant friction with him, I couldn't deny that I respected his steadiness.

But then Virgo's voice cut through the noise. "So, what do you think your power would be, Capricorn?"

I felt my jaw tighten. Was she mocking me? Testing me? Either way, I wasn't going to make it easy for her.

"I don't believe in 'powers,'" I replied, trying to hide my irritation. "But if I did, it would probably be something practical. Something that actually makes sense."

"Like what? Making spreadsheets appear out of thin air?" Virgo shot back with a playful grin, and for a split second, my heart skipped.

I narrowed my eyes, half annoyed and half captivated by the way her lips curled. It was almost unfair how cute she could be, even when she was challenging me. But I wasn't about to let her see the effect she had on me. "I don't need to prove anything to you," I muttered, turning my attention back to the group.

Pisces was still showing off her control over the water, much to everyone's awe. But as she did, I couldn't help but notice the way Scorpio's gaze lingered on her, a soft flicker of admiration in his eyes. He wasn't the type to show affection openly, but I knew him well enough to recognize it. I had to admit, I found it strange how protective he seemed of her. The dynamic between them had always intrigued me-Virgo's best friend, always the silent observer, yet there was something deeper there.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Libra grinned at me. "Capricorn, admit it-you've got some kind of power brewing in that brain of yours, right?"

I just glared at her, but the teasing tone in the air made it hard to stay serious. Everyone was having too much fun to take anything seriously. "I don't need powers to keep this group in check," I said flatly.

But even as I spoke, my eyes were drawn back to Virgo, her laughter soft in the air as she argued with Leo, and I couldn't help but wonder if maybe I was losing my edge. Or maybe it was just that every time she looked at me like that, everything I thought I knew about myself seemed a little less certain.

---

The night stretched on, the conversations weaving between playful banter and serious questions about powers. But the only thing on my mind was Virgo-how she challenged me at every turn, how she made my blood race in ways I couldn't explain. And despite the constant sparring, there was a part of me that couldn't help but admire her.

Maybe this school wasn't just about finding my place. Maybe it was about figuring out why, exactly, Virgo seemed to make me want to break all my own rules.
