The three were staying at a small motel called 'The Lynnwood Inn', eating at the diner while they searched through the newspapers for a case.

Dean had a mostly empty plate in front of him, circling obituaries that seemed like they might be something.

Kat was sitting next to him lost in her train of thought, eyes focused on her hands, fingers flexing slightly. The instance from the mines replaying in her mind like a broken record.

She didn't even fully understand what it was that she did but she knew it wasn't a mere coincidence that the moment she was in danger, likely to be killed, some force happened to protect her. The feeling that came from it replayed in her head as well, like it was primal.

She glanced over at Dean, would he look at her differently if he knew she could have done something like that?

An attractive waitress approached from across the room, sauntering over with her eyes on Dean. She leaned in a bit closer than necessary, "Can I get you anything else?" she said.

Dean looked up at her with a giddy smile, clearly enjoying the attention.

Kat shifted, crossing her arms and looking away from the trivial display.

Sam came over to the two, noticing Kats displeasure, "Just the check, please." he told the waitress, sitting on the other side next to Kat.

The girl walked away to get their check, flirtatiously smiling at Dean again as she did so.

Dean dropped his head, looking at Sam in disbelief, "You know, Sam, we are allowed to have fun once in a while...that's fun." he said pointing to the waitress as she strutted away.

Sam looked at him, then to Kat who was blocking out Dean's incessant tool-like behavior yet again, not giving any response.

Dean set the newspaper down in front of the two of them, "Here, take a look at this, I think I got one. Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Last week Sophie Carlton, eighteen, walks into the lake, doesn't walk out. Authorities dragged the water; nothing. Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year. None of the other bodies were found either. They had a funeral two days ago."

"A funeral?" Kat said, the statement catching her attention.

"Yeah, it's weird, they buried an empty coffin. For, uh, closure or whatever." Dean explained.

"Closure? What closure? People don't just disappear Dean. Other people just stop looking for them." Sam said bluntly, obviously hinting at their situation with John.

Kat sulked back in her seat, quite literally stuck in the middle of them.

"Something you want to say to me?" Dean questioned.

"The trail for Dad. It's getting colder every day." Sam answered.

"Exactly do what are we supposed to do?" Dean said snappily.

"I don't know. Something. Anything." Sam said.

"You know what? I'm sick of this attitude. You don't think I wanna find Dad as much as you do?" Dean questioned his brother.

"Yeah, I know you do, it's just..." Sam began before Dean interrupted.

"Me and Kat are the ones that have been with him every single day for the past two years, while you've been off to college going to pep rallies. We will find Dad. But until then, we're gonna kill everything bad between here and there. Okay?" Dean said with a serious glare, Kats eyes darted between the two of them at the mention of her name, hoping they didn't drag her into the argument as well.
