Sam abruptly woke up again, Kat looking at him from the backseat with concern. His state of mind since Jess's death worried her and Dean, he was barely sleeping and constantly having nightmares.

"You okay?" Dean asked him.

Sam glanced over to his brother for a second, "Yeah, I'm fine." He said in denial.

"Another nightmare?" Kat asked.

Sam just cleared his throat, ignoring the question. She placed her head on his shoulder from the middle backseat, exhausted from barely getting much sleep herself.

"You wanna drive for a while?" Dean offered Sam.

Kats head shot up, her eyes wide in awe.

Sam laughed in surprise, "Dean not once in your life have you asked me that."

"Just thought you might want to. Never mind." Dean shrugged.

"Look, I know you guys are worried about me, I get it, and thank you, but I'm perfectly okay." Sam insisted, picking up a map, "All right, where are we?" he questioned.

"Just outside of Grand Junction I think." Kat replied, feeling tension between the three of them, studying Sam's face.

"You know what? Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon." Sam stated.

"Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you wanna find the thing that killed Jessica..." Dean began

"We gotta find Dad first." Sam finished his sentence.

"Dad disappearing...and this thing showing up again after twenty years, it's no coincidence." Dean stated.

"John will know what to do. I mean he's been hunting the thing that killed your mom for years, he's bound to know something." Kat said.

"It's weird, the coordinates he left us. This Blackwater Ridge." said Sam.

"What about it?" asked Dean.

"It's just woods, practically the middle of nowhere." Kat answered.

Dean parked the impala at the lost creek trail ranger station. The three exiting the car and entering the small building.

Sam and Kat brought their attention to a 3D map of the national forest, Kat pointing at black water ridge.

"It's cut off by these canyons here, rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place." Sam said to Kat as they inspected the map.

"Dude, check out the size of this freaking bear!" Dean said pointing to a framed photo of a man standing with a massive bear.

"And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike, that's for sure." Sam stated.

"Great! How fun!" Kat said sarcastically, Dean and Sam chuckled.

A forest ranger walked up behind them, "You three aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?" he questioned, seeming concerned in a way.

"Oh, no, sir, we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper." Sam replied.

Dean raised a fist, "Recycle, man!"

"Bull." The ranger shot them down.

Kats eyes flicked to the boys, the two of them just as confused as her.

"You're friends with that Haley girl, right?" The ranger asked.

Kat looked around for a second, thinking, "Uhm...Yes, yes we are Ranger... Wilkinson." She said with a smile, reading his name tag.
