The next morning, Privet went and got some breakfast before meeting up with Mr. Guilty in the lobby of the hotel.
"Sorry I'm late, I needed some food," he says, around a mouth full of bagel.
"Personally, I care more about mystery than fast food. Don't you have food at your house?" Mr. Guilty asked, he didn't know Privet checked in earlier the night before, a little over an hour after him.
"About that...whoever got you also basically blew up my house so...anyways let's go talk to your parents, see if they know anything.
"Ok. I guess."
The pair arrives at the house of Mr. Guilty's parents. Not too long after, Mr. Guilty instantly knows something is off when he notices that his dad's car is not there. He runs inside and finds the door unlocked, which is another warning sign. He checks the entire house and when he gets to the bedroom, he finds his mother crumpled on the floor, dead, with a broken vase all around her. It looked as if someone had hit her with it, because her head was bleeding badly.
Mr. Guilty's father Ryan pulled into the drive soon after and hurried inside.
"Son! I went to talk with the electric people after our power went out, then I came home and found her dead! I couldn't use the phone, so I went looking for you and that detective but the secretary informed me you guys were going to my house, so I came home to meet you."
"Man, my secretary knows a lot, it's kind of creepy," Privet thinks to himself.
Privet turns and addresses the two men in front of him, "Ok, if you want to help, I want you two to look for an R, like drawn on a piece of paper. I'm going to study the murder weapon, maybe get some fingerprints"
"The murder weapon is shattered on the floor. How are you going to get fingerprints?" Guilty asked incredulously.
"The pieces are still here, if I can gather them all, one of them must have a print!" So the three men start hurrying around, looking for clues and pieces of the vase.
"There!" Privet exclaims as he glues the last piece of vase into the vase. He then begins to dust for fingerprints but finds none. "Must have been wearing gloves, the little bugger" He grumbles under his breath.
"Hey! I found the R thing! It was under the bed." Ryan exclaims, holding the paper up.
Privet looks up from where he was on the floor. "Great give it here" When Ryan hands him the paper, Ryan takes out the other two he nabbed from Guilty's house and his own, they all looked as if they had been printed, though the writing was clear by the pencil lead shavings on the R itself. Ryan had gone out of the room, too squeamish and grief-stricken to see his dead wife, and Guilty was calling a crew to clean the place. So Privet was all alone when he turned the papers over and noticed a faint yellow mark on the back of one of the papers, he looked closer and noticed that these marks were on all three of the papers.
Privet took out his invisible ink pen he got from a random school science fair he went to on another case and shone the purple light onto the paper, the three papers together revealed most of a map, it seemed to be a map of London, but the only missing part was of the south-east part of the city. Then it clicked, both deaths were the WIVES of two men in the family, and the second was of a man whose name starts with R. The only one to not have a death was Privet, but that made sense as he was not part of the family and was not married. As Privet thought more, he immediately rushed out to where Ryan and Mr. Guilty were waiting.
"Quickly," he gasps, "Do either Ricky or Dicky have a wife?"
"Yeah, Ricky does, Dicky doesn't, he's a little weird, why?" Ryan replies, worried by Privet's tone.
"Sh!t, we have to go to Ricky's house NOW! His wife may be in danger!" He shouts as he sprints to his car and starts the engine as the other two pile into the car. Privet speeds off down the London streetways towards the residence of Ricky. When they got there Ricky and his wife Carla came outside to greet them.
"To what do I owe the pleasure, Dad? Guilty? Mr. Privet?" Ricky asks as he lets them inside.
Privet was confused to see Ricky's wife alive and well but didn't say anything about it as he explained why he was there.
Privet sighs gratefully, "I guess the killer hasn't struck yet," he thinks, "But that just makes Ricky all the more suspicious."
Guilty pipes up, "We just wanted to make sure you were ok after what happened to Mom and EliseEllise (Guilty's wife)."
"Uhm, yeah, we're ok. What exactly happened to them?"
"They freaking died! How did you not know that?!?!?!?!"
"Woah woah, calm down, they're dead? I've been so busy at work I had no idea"
"In his defense," Privet added, "They were killed yesterday and this morning. It's not like the murders happened a long time ago."
"Exactly!" Ricky says, "They just happened! How was I supposed to know? Either way, that's sad to hear, so why are you here? You think I did something?"
Guilty starts to answer but Privet cuts him off.
"No, no! Not at all! We just wanted to make sure you were ok before something happened, that's all" Privet explained, mentally noting how defensive Ricky got. He then takes Ryan and Guilty back to their respective homes, Guilty's now being clean, and heads home.
The next day, Privet spent time trying to figure out what the map meant and who it could be, but he came up with nothing. That is until a call came at about noon from Guilty. Guilty talks with a somber tone.
"Carla is dead."
