Brianna finished her lemonade, feeling grateful for the Green family's hospitality. She glanced at her watch, realizing the afternoon had slipped away."I should get going," Brianna said, standing up.
Ruth smiled. "Why don't you stay for dinner? We'd love to have you."
Brianna hesitated, unsure if she should impose.
"We've got plenty of room," Caleb chimed in. "You can stay overnight and head out in the morning."
His warm smile put her at ease.
"Thank you," Brianna said, agreeing.
As the evening unfolded, Brianna found herself laughing and sharing stories with the Green family. After dinner, Caleb showed her to the cozy guest room.
"Make yourself at home," he said, handing her a fresh towel.
Brianna smiled, feeling grateful for this unexpected detour.
The next morning, Brianna woke to birdsong and sunlight streaming through the window. She stretched, refreshed.Downstairs, Ruth was busy in the kitchen, preparing breakfast. Brianna's stomach growled at the aroma.
"Good morning!" Ruth chirped. "How did you sleep?"
"Great, thanks," Brianna replied.
Caleb walked in, his hair damp, and flashed a brief smile. "Morning."
Brianna's heart skipped a beat.
Ruth handed her a plate piled with fluffy eggs, crispy bacon and buttery biscuits. "Dig in!"
As they ate, Caleb discussed farm plans with his father. Brianna listened intently. After breakfast, Caleb offered to take Brianna to her car.
"We can take a look, maybe fix it ourselves."
Brianna agreed, and they set off across the rolling hills.
As they walked, Caleb pointed out landmarks: the old oak, the creek and the family cemetery. Brianna felt at ease in Caleb's presence.
At the car, Caleb quickly diagnosed the issue.
"Just a loose wire. Easy fix."
Brianna watched, impressed.
"Thanks so much," she said.
Caleb chuckled. "Just glad I could help."
As they walked back, Brianna realized she'd grown attached to the peaceful atmosphere and the Green family's warmth.
"Would you like to stay for lunch?" Caleb asked.
Brianna hesitated before nodding. "I'd love to."
