Caleb lay in the hospital bed, surrounded by the steady beeps of machines and the gentle hum of fluorescent lights.
Brianna sat beside him, her hand clasped tightly around his.
"Caleb, I'm so sorry," Brianna whispered, tears welling in her eyes.Caleb's weak smile reassured her.
"Not your fault," Caleb whispered. "Jason's sick."
Noah entered the room.
"Hey, man," Noah said softly. "How're you feeling?"
Caleb nodded.
"Better."
The doctor arrived.
"Good news," the doctor announced. "Caleb will make a full recovery."
Brianna's sigh of relief filled the room.
"No more taking bullets for random city girls!"
Brianna chuckled.
"Not even if they are as beautiful as you?" Caleb smiled.
Brianna rolled her eyes and laughed as she and Noah helped Caleb out of the bed and down to the truck.
They then all took themselves home on a quiet filled ride. Living in the moment for once.
Later that day, Noah visited Caleb alone.
"I've made up my mind, Noah," Caleb said, his voice filled with conviction.
"I want to marry Brianna," Caleb declared.
Noah's eyes widened in surprise.
"Really?" Noah asked. "Are you sure? She's got a lot of baggage."
Caleb's determination remained unwavering.
"I love her," Caleb replied.
"Baggage and all. She's worth it. I've never felt this way," Caleb replied.
"Brianna's worth it. Her heart, her love – it's all worth it. I cant go through the fear of losing someone like that again. It made me realize...I never want to lose her."
Noah nodded.
"Alright, bro," Noah said. "I'm with you."
"Help me plan an engagement," Caleb asked.
Noah grinned.
"Let's make it unforgettable."
Together, they began designing a heartfelt proposal.
A secret mission began.
Brianna remained unaware of the surprise.
Caleb and Noah worked tirelessly.
Their bond strengthened as they planned.
A new chapter awaited. Little did Brianna know. Her life was about to change for the better.
