As Y/n makes her way into the canteen for breakfast she spots her brother and his group of friends sitting at their usual table.
They're all smiling and laughing with one another. She's sure this is a result of another unserious debate over something silly like who would survive longest in an apocalypse.
Y/n watches them fondly from afar for a moment. She smiles as Namjoon and Jin intertwine their hands and Hoseok and Jimin slip from the group conversation and into a heated match of rock, paper, scissors.
Silently the girl finds herself hoping that someday soon she too would find a group of friends like theirs. People she could talk casually with and let her guard down around.
But alas this seems like a far off dream these days.
In the midst of Y/n growing lost in thought Jungkook notices his sister from across the canteen.
He can't hide the surprised expression that quickly finds its way onto his features. After all, he expected her today take the day to recover.
Nonetheless though, he waves at his sister with a warm smile. Once she notices him he's quick to invite her over.
As she approaches the table the rest of the group soon join Jungkook and smile up at Y/n.
Well, all but Yoongi.
Y/n notices, but does her best to brush it off seeing as the behavior was nothing new.
"Hi guys," she hums as she takes a seat next to Namjoon. "how is everyone?"
"Good!" Hoseok chirps. "But, how are you? Jungkook mentioned you were sick yesterday. Shouldn't you be resting?"
Y/n grows sheepish.
"Ah, well I went to bed early last night. So I'm starting to feel much better. I should be back to normal soon. Don't worry."
Jungkook spares his sister an unsure glance however she doesn't notice and instead sits her bag down and looks to the rest of the guys with an apologetic frown.
"Speaking of which, sorry I couldn't make it last night. My friends were busy and I figured it was best that I rested."
The group all share knowing looks for a moment before promptly assuring the girl that there were no hard feelings. It's not long after this that everyone falls back into casual conversation.
Meanwhile, Yoongi finds himself sneaking glances Y/n's way every few minutes. He's not sure why but, he has this strange feeling in his stomach every time he catches sight of her cheery smile.
He knows it's not genuine. He knows she likely doesn't feel as good as she claims. Just like he knows he should've told Jungkook about his sister's sleazy friends sooner.
But, he couldn't bring himself to. For as long as Yoongi could remember he only had himself. He's not used to looking out for others.
Frankly, he was still getting used to his fairly new friend group and all the things that go along with being a part of it.
Group outings, sharing meals, talking to one another about things that no one else knows. It's all been extremely difficult for Yoongi.
