chapter 5 - "he's gone..."

"g-guys, I hate to interrupt but..." Saiko began to speak. The crew turned around and-

Saw Meggy with a firm grasp on Luigi's neck, pinning him against the wall mercilessly. He was struggling to breath and his eyes were bulging.

"you need to let him go Meggy! Snap out of it!" Tari cried.

"I can take you too if you like?" Possessed Meggy asked. Laughing psychotically, she grabbed the blue haired girl by the neck with her free hand and began choking her. She let out squeals and clawed at her grasp. Saiko watched with her hands in fists from afar, her eyes widened and a traumatized expression was on her face. She pulled out her iconic hammer (cartoon logic) and began slamming it against Meggys legs whilst grunting. It seemed to be doing some damage yet Meggy was unphased. 3 sat 4 up by the wall and pulled out his gun from his pocket to threaten the ghost that was not leaving the ginger girl. He kissed 4s cheek and looked thoroughly at his features; blue lips, puffy eyes, and a red mist that swirled around him, potentially indicating the fact that he was cursed.

"4, I don't know if you can hear me, but if you can, please stay strong for me. I cannot live without you by my side, know I love you and I I'm afraid of losing you. That's the one thing I'm scared of. Please 4. Stay." he whispered, running his hand through the unconscious boys hair. He turned around and ran towards Meggy and the others, aiming his gun at the ginger girl.

"I WILL SHOOT IF I HAVE TO! DON'T MAKE ME....." 3 threatened, anger growing inside of him.

"let Tari and Luigi go, they're your friends! Luigi, how do you release the ghost that has possessed her?!" he shouted, placing his finger onto the trigger. Panic settled in for all of the crew and they honestly had no idea if they were all going to make it out alive.

"y-you have t-to sprinkle s-salt." The green Italian managed to say, in between taking huge breaths. He was grabbing onto Meggys vice-like grip and trying to escape by punching it. He gestured towards his pocket which had a full jar of salt inside. The purple guardian jumped up to grab it and then sprinkled it around the ginger girl. He took a few steps back and joined Saiko and Mario. It took a few seconds for the cure to settle in but she soon felt sharp sensations in her head, causing her to immediately drop the two victims harshly and bring both hands up to her head and her breathing became heavy again. Luigi and Tari scurried away in pain and fear and watched as the ghost exited Meggy and disappeared into the shadows. She fell to her knees and placed a hand on her chest, coughing uncontrollably. Her eyes returning back to normal.

"Meggy!" they all shouted in unison, rushing to her aid.

"are you alright?" Saiko asked concernedly, scanning her face.

"y-yeah, what... happened?" the former squid questioned, looking at the marks around Luigi and Tari's necks and the gun 3 held in his right hand. "d-did I do that?! Oh God I'm so sorry you guys! I didnt mean t-"

she was cut off by Mario hugging her as the crew watched their cute interaction.

"it wasn't your fault, don't worry." the red Italian spoke softly. They caught Meggy up on everything that had happened whilst she frantically apologized multiple times. 3 smiled at having his friend back to normal and then turned around to check up on his boyfriend.

"f-four? WHERE DID 4 GO?!" 3 shouted, looking left and right sharply and finding it extremely difficult to breathe. His chest became tight and he clutched his shirt tightly.

"3, you don't think he-" Tari whimpered, embracing Saiko as small tears formed in her eyes. The crew all looked at each other with horrified looks on their faces.

"DIED? NO! NO HE'S NOT DEAD!! HE CAN'T DIE! NOT LIKE THIS! I PROMISED ID KEEP HIM SAFE AND I.... I... BROKE THE PROMISE!!" 3 roared in agony, he had never been so upset before and this made the others distressed and unable to stop themselves from letting a few tears fall.

"no, he's probably woke up and came to us but got scared and hid somewhere. uhhh yeah! don't worry 3!" Mario exclaimed, trying to be positive.

"mario, smg4 feels the most safe around 3. he wouldnt run off, away from him, especially after being so weak." Luigi admitted, taking off his hat and holding it in both hands.

"Im so sorry." Meggy apologized, looking down at the ground. Guilt took over as she realized, she may have killed smg4... As the reality of the situation kicked in, 3 burst into salty tears, pressing his head against the ground. His life would never be the same. They stood there in silence, the only noise being occasional deep breaths and more loud sobbing from the purple meme guardian.

"he's gone..." 3 said through his painful sobs.

"and it's all my fault." Meggy muttered, bringing both hands to her mouth and closing her eyes. She started bawling and sniffling along with 3. Mario tried his best to comfort Meggy, and Saiko tried to cheer 3 up, knowing that there was nothing they could do.

"w-wait guys? as gross as this sounds, if smg4 really was... well uhh... you know... Wouldn't there be some trace left of him? bones, flesh, blood, his cap? surely something, right? but... there's nothing." Tari asked confusedly.

The crew looked up at her absurdly and were infuriated for a second as she potentially falsely brought their hopes up but then they actually took her point into consideration. The crew's faces lit up slightly as they understood that there's still a small chance that he could be alive.

"w-where is he then? I need to find him, if he's still out there. I have to!" 3 asked desperately, getting up from the ground and placing both of his hands on Tari's shoulders.

"i-i do not know but I think he's still alive, wherever he is." she smiled.

3 straightened up his cap, held his gun firmly in his dominant hand and made sure he had some bombs with him. He picked up 2 walkie-talkies and threw one towards the general direction of the crew, then flicked on a flash light. He took a deep breath and without hesitation, set off into the darkness for any sign of his potentially dead boyfriend.

"I'm not coming back until I find him..."

"but what if he's not out there?" Meggy asked sorrowfully.

"I don't want to think about that. You have a walkie-talkie so contact me if you find him or if there's an emergency." the purple meme guardian spoke, more tears formed slowly in his eyes yet he refused to let them fall.

"I'll find you 4. Stay strong for me."

the last words 3 said before running off into the museum, ignoring the dangers and obstacles.
