I enjoy this too much

The night of the Yule Ball you felt like vomiting. You were going with a Slytherin, and not just any run of the mill Slytherin, but their prince. In addition to having to dance with said Slytherin in front of the entirety of your friends. You could hear them now, "how could you?" followed by hateful hisses. You might as well leave Hogwarts. You'd never be welcomed in your common room again. All for what? A date to piss Michael off. You did a fine job of that, he had avoided you for the past two weeks-and now probably forever.

You sharply drew your breath, fixing your hair and dress one more time. Hermione appeared behind you. "My God, Hermione you look stunning!" She might be the only one to talk to you. She would surely piss Ron off by going with Viktor Krum. Maybe you two could leave school together.

Her cheeks darkened. "Not nearly as stunning as you Y/N. That color looks amazing on you." And damn well it better, you were in a shimmering emerald green dress- Draco's idea.

You shook your head, turning back to the mirror. "Hermione?" you were too scared to finish your thought.

Her hand was gentle on your shoulder. "Yeah?"

You swallowed your nerves hoping they would untangle by the end of the night. "If everyone turned against me, would you stick by me?"

She was obviously caught off guard, studying you as you painted your lips red. "Of course, but why would that happen?"

Closing your eyes you told her. She choked slightly, eye's bugging out. "Malfoy? That's who you're going with?" You nodded trying not to cry. "Do you honestly like him? Don't answer that, it's obvious you love Michael...that's why you're doing this isn't it? He didn't ask you first, and Draco did."

You nodded. "No one asked me because no one noticed me. It felt great to be noticed. For once, someone likes me. "

Hermione grabbed your hand, "I wish it was Michael, but I'll stick by you." She held your hand down the dormitory steps. The common room had cleared, leaving less problems for you two. "I'll go down first, throw everyone off."

You peeked out behind the columns scanning the crowd. Everyone was in awe at Hermione. Now was your chance. Daring a step out, you searched for Draco. He stood alone, looking handsome as always. His tie was a deep, Slytherin green which looked beautiful against his crisp white shirt and black dress robes. He smiled softly seeing you and with each step closer it grew.

Draco bowed before you, taking your hand in his. He kissed it softly. Harry Potter could say what he wanted, but Draco Malfoy could charm even McGonagall into a fun night. "You look beautiful tonight. Not that you don't every night." His smirk was infectious. His chest puffed out slightly as you two entered the Great Hall. You could hear the whispers and the hisses already. Draco sensed your frown, pulling you closer to his chest.

The night had been fun. You wouldn't trade it for the world, but you would trade it for Michael. Michael stared in your direction all night. Hate dominating his behavior. He was a ticking time bomb, his hair deep ebony. You were in for once you entered the common room door. Draco held one of your hands as he smiled softly at you. "Thank you for tonight. It meant a lot to spend time with someone who wasn't so clingy and pure-blood radical."

"It was nice spending time with someone who has a bad reputation but deep down is good." His ears tinged pink.

"I know you love Michael. Everyone can see it. I hope I haven't fucked things up. I just wanted one night with you. He's a lucky guy, stupid and annoying like oh my God he's annoying, but lucky none the less. Friends?"

"Friends." You assured kissing his cheek. "Thank you."

You parted ways, stepping through the common room door. You were face to face with your circle of friends all squinting and all scowling. Fred and George Weasley smirked slightly. "Where have you been young lady?" they shrieked like their mother.

You said nothing, staring back just as coldly. "Are you insane?" Harry hissed. "Malfoy is the worst person here at Hogwarts."

"That's a matter of opinion." You sassed right back. "And it shouldn't concern any of you who I go to the ball with. I went, had fun, and I'm back safe and sound. He didn't hurt me at all."

Ron shook his head. "Between you and Hermione." He scoffed and went to bed, the twins and Harry following. Ginny frowned leaving as well, giving you the cold shoulder. Michael, Ashton, and Hermione remained. Hermione looked as if she had been crying, which given how everyone's night had gone you didn't blame her.

Michael clenched his fists at his sides. "Malfoy? You went with Malfoy? My God, Y/N are you stupid? Your reputation is ruined. For so long you were better than all of the girls he used, and now you're no better than Parkinson. "

Tears pricked your eyes. "Michael-"

"No! I don't want to hear it. If you wanted to be an easy fuck, why didn't you just use Calum? Oh right, because he wouldn't hurt me enough?"

Ashton shot Michael a glare. "Mate, calm down."

Michael ignored him. "You know what? I snuck off with one of the Beauxbatons girls. She was fun enough, Snape caught us, but it was worth it."

Tears had begun to trickle down your cheeks at this point. You felt helpless, Hermione grabbed your hand. "Come on Y/N." She pulled you up the girl's stairs, you didn't make it to your room before breaking down.

Ashton glared at Michael. "Way to go mate. All she did was going to a dance with Malfoy because you were too much of a coward to even ask her. She never left the hall. Not once. And there you go upsetting her. That hat was wack when it put you in here. You're no better than a Slytherin. I reckon to Y/N, Malfoy's better than you." Ashton left Michael alone.

Michael felt the grey of guilt rush over him. His eyes shut, he didn't mean it. He didn't mean a word of it. From where he stood in the common room, he could make out your gentle figure collapsed onto Hermione's lap.

He fell asleep listening to you sob.
