Five years had passed since the night Haerin and Danielle said goodbye.
The breakup had been sudden. Raw. Unavoidable, yet, at the time, they both had convinced themselves it was the best thing for them. The timing had been off—Haerin had moved away to college in NYC, Danielle stayed behind in their small hometown, each of them chasing different dreams, their lives diverging in ways neither could have foreseen. They had tried to keep in touch, sending the occasional message or text, but the distance between them—both physical and emotional—had grown too wide to bridge. They drifted apart, as most people did.But no matter how much time passed, Haerin could never quite shake the feeling that she'd left a piece of her heart with Danielle. She was the one who had seen her at her best and her worst, the one who had loved her when she wasn't sure how to love herself. And for a long time, she had convinced herself that part of her would always belong to her, even if they were no longer in each other's lives.

It was a Saturday afternoon in the city. Haerin had finished a long day of meetings at the Hospital she worked for, the city skyline stretching ahead of her as she made her way out of the building and into the busy streets. She had changed over the years—becoming more confident, more comfortable in her own skin. She had a new apartment, a growing career, and a life she was proud of. But when she thought about love, she couldn't help but think about Danielle.
