The heavy rain had finally arrived.I wanted to get some snacks, but now I was trapped in the supermarket. The storm was getting stronger by the minute and there was no end in sight. I held the two bags in my hands tightly. I chewed my inner cheek and thought about how I could get to John dry.
I don't think that's going to work. I exhaled in annoyance and thought of a plan. But with every thunder they went out like a fire in the rain. I saw some people scurrying quickly into the store, holding their jackets over their heads and putting their umbrellas down."Oh come on, fuck it." I said to myself and quickly walked out the door into the pouring rain. The next second I immediately regretted it, but going back was no longer an option.
I could barely see, took the two bags in one hand and held the other in front of my eyes. I quickly got cold and the dress clung to my body. I was soaking wet and probably looked like a wet dog. Later I arrived at a traffic light and of course it turned red straight away. This day couldn't get any better. Slowly I leaned against the pole and closed my eyes. "Please turn green at last." I was just about to see if it had changed to green, but strangely enough, a car stopped in front of me.
I couldn't see who it was. Maybe it had turned green after all. And as I was about to start walking, the window opened and someone leaned out. "I'll give you a ride. Get in." Rafe Cameron looked at me pointedly. I was slightly startled and stopped walking abruptly. "I'll be fine on my own, thanks." He just laughed and pulled up a little so I couldn't go any further. "that wasn't a question, get in, Ana." He looked at me seriously and glanced at the seat next to him.
Was I perhaps a little relieved that Rafe was there and I didn't have to walk in the rain? Yes, I was. Will I admit that? Never.
I walked along the side of the car and sat down next to him. I put the bags down between my legs and hoped that they wouldn't tip over. My clothes, hair and shoes were dripping all over his car. Would it damage his leather seats? As he drove off, I leaned more against the seat and closed my eyes. The heated seats warmed me up again and the quiet radio was near perfect for falling asleep.
"What were you doing out in the rain?" He was audibly annoyed. Was it me? But why should I care. I didn't force him to take me with him. I slowly turned my head in his direction and scanned his side profile. His head was facing forward, but his eyes wandered to me from time to time. "I was out shopping and suddenly it was stormy." He just laughed, licked along his lower lip, and looked at me properly for a moment. "Anastasia, you've lived here your whole life. You know exactly when the rain is coming. And you decided to go out now?" He shook his head and I could only draw my eyebrows together. "What business is it of yours what I do? And why did I even get in the car. Let me out. Here and now!" I got angry and sat up straighter. "Forget it, Anastasia. We're in the middle of a main road. I'm not letting you out." I closed my eyes for a moment and tried to stay calm. "Then please take me to John B. We were all supposed to meet there." His hands gripped the steering wheel tighter and his jaw tightened again. "If you seriously think I'm going to drive you to this guy, you're the crazy one here." I looked at him, puzzled. "Just drop me off at the front of his street." There was no reply and he looked ahead intently. Had I managed to persuade him?
