Fire and Ice

Chapter 1:

Hey so this is the sequel to The Star-Crossed Hunger Games so if you don't read that you might be a little confused but it's basically a Catoniss fanfic after the Games.

~~~~~Katniss POV~~~

Screeeeeecchh! The train halted to a stop at District 12. I jump off the train and see two blonde braids flying at me and then Prim's little arms are wrapped around my neck. "Katniss I knew you could make it! I knew it I knew it! I'm so happy you won!!!" Prim shouted excitedly at me.

Next I hug Gale and Cato grunts but I shoot him a look saying that were only friends, me and Gale.

I see my mother and hug her too. "I missed you mom." She smiles and says, "You did a good job Katniss. Now, " she says, holding me out at an arms length, "Let's meet this wonderful man named Cato." I smile at the mention of Cato and pull his forward.

"Prim, Gale, Mother, this is Cato." I announce and Cato waves. Prim looks excited and sprints to him and clings on his legs. My mother looks pleased. I looks over at Gale and he seems to look sort of jealous. I get kind of confused because Gale is only my friend.

"I like you Cato! I think you're good for Katniss!" Prim says. I can tell Cato blushed w little bit so I cuddled against his chest. He wrapped his as around me and I said,  "The victory tour is in two weeks so I have plenty of time to settle in with you." I say and Prim takes me by the hand to show me my house in the victors village.

"Me and mother brought in all your things last night so you could be comfortable and so you can just rest when you get home."

"What that's very nice if you Prim." I say and Prim beams.

Cato walks quietly up behind Prim and tickles her on her sides. Prim yelps in surprise and giggles because Cato won't stop tickling her. 

Then he mounted Prim on his wide shoulders and galloped around like a pony while Prim was yelling, "Go horsey go!"

Finally Cato outs her down and I finish laughing. Then before I know it I am being picked up and thrown over Cato's shoulder and he walked into my house. "Hey what are you doing?!" I exclaim and pound on his back, which obviously doesn't do any harm to him.

Then he sat me on the couch and plopped done himself. I curled up against his chest and he slung his arm around my shoulders.

"Well Cato, are you going back to District 2?" I ask Cato. He frowns, "You want, me to go back to District 2?" He said. Heat rushed to my cheeks. "We-well that's not what I meant..... I meant when are you going back to District 2? Like I just want to know how much longer you're going to be here with me." I stutter out.

Cato chucked and says, "Call in your family, I need to tell them something." I pout. "But I want the answer to my question."

"Prim !! Cato wants you! And bring mother!!

Immediately Prim comes boudin in and my mother comes in behind. She plops down on Cato lap and twists her bday so she can be face to face with Cato. "Prim don't bombard Cato all the time." My mother scolds.

"Well." Cato starts. "I have decided, and have spoken to the officials, that I will be staying in District 12 forever!"

Did he just say what I though he said? "Really?!"  I jump up and ask him. He stands up as well which knocks prim off but she stands up and dances around. "Cato's staying with us forever!" And repeated over and over again. 

"Yes I am staying for real Katniss." He says and places his lips on mine. I feels his tongue wriggling against my lips an I accord his entrance, and his tongue fills my mouth.

"Ah hem." Prim's clears her throat and we pull away. I blush and Cato mutters sorry.

"Well Cato," my mother says. "Will you be staying in the house next door or with Katniss because I don't rally approve of that." My mother asks. Cato replies. "We'll miss Everdeen, I was thinking of rebuilding District 12 to help it a little with my winnings and family trust fund. I will speak with the mayor tomorrow and begin to build my house immediately while I'm on tour. Then when I'm back I'll go to work on the whole district."

My mom agrees and Cato goes next door to live in temporarily until he tears it done and builds his one house.

Finally two weeks have passed and the mayor agreed to let Cato do whatever he wanted with D12 to help it and he has begun bounding his house. Cato has shut down the most dangerous part of he mines and gave the workers a job on his construction site, which pays, 5 times more.

Cato has takes me out on picnics, set up by the one and only Prim, and the district has been improving a lot in two weeks.

Screeeeeccch!!!! The train to take us on tour arrived and Haymitch drunkly climbed on board. "Katniss!" Effie's squeaky fake Capitol voice screeched. "My favorite victor! How are you sweetheart?" Effie smothered me with hugs and kisses. Even though we weren't related, Effie was like another mother to me- a Capitol one.

I hugged her back but when Effie released I was positive I had lipstick stains on my face from Effie's outrageous lipstick.

Then Cato's mentor and escorts said  their greetings to Cato and we all climbed on board. "Goodbye prim, I'll be back soon  " I yelled and blew a kiss to her. She caught it and waved with the other hand.

The train pulled off and I watched Prim's little figure until it was a tiny speck in the distance.
