One Direction- Happily

"Your alive!" Cam says lightheartedly as I stumble into the kitchen.

"Only because I have to be," I groan, filling myself a glass of water.

She smiles sympathetically at me, "How are you doing?"

"I've been better," I reply.

I wasn't meaning to be blunt, but I couldn't help it. It had only been three days, and I had decided to blow off my Nan's funeral to stay in London, because that's what she would have wanted. Wonder where I got that great advice. I suppose in a way Harry was right. God, it felt so weird mentioning him in a sentence as if it were normal. I guess if the circumstances were a whole lot different I would be fangirling out of my mind right now. But I wasn't. I was sulky and I felt terrible. Full stop.

Cam interrupts me from my depressing thoughts, "I'm sorry I haven't been much of a friend to you lately,"

I sigh, "Really Cam, it's ok. I get that you have uni, and when your not at uni you either have work or I'm asleep slash not in the mood to talk," I answer, "and I'm like that about 95% of the time right now."

She smiles again, "Still, I'm sorry,"
I finish my water and grab another.
"So what gets you up so early on this fine Saturday morning?" She questions, raising her eyebrows, which always seem to be on fleek.

"Well," I begin, "Since you could say I was, um, emotionally unstable the day after, you know, I um, I needed to reschedule my job interview," I explain.

"Ah to the Pancake House am I correct?" Cam asks before adding, "God I hope you get decent employee discounts!"

"Yep, I've probably set the record for the worst first impression ever," I retort.

"Come on, it's not that bad," she assures me, "Once I accidently tripped over my new boss and she broke her arm!"

"Oh wow," I reply, "Why does that not surprise me?"

"Hey what are you implying?"

I giggle, "That your a klutz!"

I dodge a towel that Cam hurls in my direction, "Hey, I have to go and get ready now!"

Trust Cam to know how to make me feel just a little bit better. Trust me, to get through this interview without bursting into tears was going to be a challenge, and I could use every ounce of cheering up I could get.

I take a quick shower, do my hair and get changed, applying just a little bit of makeup to cover up a few annoying red spots on my face. I grab my purse and phone, say goodbye to Cam and head out.

The morning is chilly so I walk quickly towards my (hopefully) soon to be workplace. A blast of warm air hits me as I glide through the doorway. Instantly, the smell of all kinds of breakfast foods fills my nostrils. I could get used to this.

I approach the counter and smile as Matt ducks into view from around the back.

"Hi Katherine, how are you?" He greets me warmly.

I admire his features once more. God he was something. His skin was tanned and his eyes a deep blue. I studied his face and guessed that he was in his early twenties. Stop staring, I scream in my head.

Matt gestures to a table for two not too far from where we were standing.

"Would you like to come and take a seat?"

"Sure!" I reply pulling out a chair for myself. "And you can call me Kat,"

"Right, Kat," he smiles and I melt at how good looking he is. I was becoming accustomed to british accents, but his was deep and beautiful nonetheless. "Let's get started."

He asks me a few questions about my past employments and what I have planned for the future. I find him very easy to talk to and eventually we find ourselves chatting about completely non-work related topics.

For a while, he helps me forget about my Nan, and although I was somewhat glad, I couldn't help but feel the guilty reminder that washes over me. I felt that perhaps I wasn't a good grand-daughter if I wasn't always mourning her, if I wasn't sad forever.

"So have you had much time for sightseeing yet?" Matt asks, leaning his arms on the small table.

"Uh, well not really, I mean Cam took me to see Big Ben, the London eye, and we've gone shopping a whole bunch of times," I reply, "Oh and I went to a Fleetwood Mac concert at the O2 about two weeks ago,"

I watch his mouth form into a tight frown. What did I say?

"Oh that would have been great," He replies with much less enthusiasm than before.
I continue, trying to ignore his sudden edgy tone, "Yeah, she's been a great friend so far,"
"She?" He exclaims before going red, "Oh, erm, sorry, I um, just thought by Cam, you met a, a guy," he stammers, before flashing his perfect smile. "Sorry," he gushes.

Oh. He thought I had a boyfriend.

"No it's fine, really," I assure him, feeling my cheeks heat up as well.
Was he jealous? Oh wow.

"Well then," he clears his throat, "I think it's safe to say you would make an excellent addition to the staff here," he returns to full business mode. "I noticed that you included your number in your resume yes? So I will text you the next roster, and you cant start traning," he finishes, getting up from the table.

"Thank you!" I reply, standing and shaking hands with Matt.

"Ok, well I'll see you soon Kat," he says.

"See you then,"

I make my way out of the warm building and begin to walk back towards mine and Cam's apartment. I feel my phone vibrate and I pull it out of my pocket.

Mum: Hey Hon, how did the interview go?

Kat: Pretty good- I got the job!

Mum: That's great Kat! I'll let everyone know! How have you been?

Kat: As can be expected... A little better today I think.

Mum: Have you talked to anyone

Kat: Yeah Cam's been great.

I contemplate telling her about Harry. I don't think she was going to believe me but what harm could it do? Here goes nothing.

Kat: And, I talked to Harry.

Mum: Harry?

Kat: Harry Styles mum.

Mum: Glad to hear your feeling better lovely- were all missing you playing One Direction as loud as you can through the house. I've got to go, but talk to you later. I love you x

Right. So she thought I was joking. I sigh and place my phone back in my pocket. I'd explain it to her later.

No sooner had I put my phone back in my pocket, it vibrates again. Ugh, its probably Mum again. I swear mothers have to say 'i love you' at least ten times before they can actually go and move on with their lives.

It was a twitter direct message. I gasp when I read the screen in front of me.

Harry Styles: Hi Katherine, is everything ok?

For what seemed like the millionth time since arriving in London, I dropped my phone. How was this even remotely possible?
