Kade Carter from Oklahoma, is a student of meteorology and a storm chaser. In hopes of getting a scholarship and wanting to help people, he researches for a means to reduce the intensity of tornados using chemicals. He gets help from his brother Jeb and their friends Addy, Praveen and Javi. In the moment, he underestimates the storm he chose to test his theory on, and the experiment fails. Praveen, Addy and Jeb are unfortunately killed by the tornado.
Five years later, Kade now works at an environmental agency office in New York City, monitoring the weather. An old friend visits him, offering him to work with him for a private company that scans tornados in 3D. He needs his expertise to locate tornados. Kade is reluctant at first, but then accepts the invitation.
He travels to Oklahoma and join Javi's team, the Storm PAR. Yn Owens along with her team arrive for the tornado outbreak, vlogging for their YouTube channel. They've brought a British journalist, who is doing a piece on American storm chasing.
Kade dislikes Yn and her team at first, but then later sees the good they do with their merchandise profit. He also learns the true objectives of the Storm Par's owner.
