Chapter 13

It was evening and the wind blew a cool Breeze as we walked by the crossroads. I looked over at the huge transmit tower of Vale. I follwed Ruby and Weiss while they kept on bickering.

Weiss: Atlas developed the Cross Continental Transmit System to allow the four kingdoms to communicate with one another. It was their gift to the world after the Great War.

Ruby: (acting high and mighty) Oooh, look at me! My name's Weiss! I know facts! I'm rich! (snorts into her hands at Weiss' frown)

Weiss: Don't be a pest!

Klaus: Cut it out you guys.

Weiss: The only reason we're here is because you like the tower so much! We could have just as easily made a call from the library!

Ruby: I know, but it's so coool! Ooh, I'm going to take a picture! On a second thought, Klaus! Weiss! Get in the frame!

Weiss: huh?

Klaus: We're simply wasting time here Ruby

Ruby: Come on! It'd be a nice picture and since you guys are matching with the whole same outfit, its makes you guys look like a couple

Ruby had no sense of embarrassment or any second thoughts on what she said right now because I'm too self conscious now and to make it worse Weiss was completely silent and kept on glancing downwards at her shoe or the pavement.

Weiss: Ruby you know this wasn't intentional...but shall we take a picture, Klaus?

Klaus: If you don't mind...

I said with a hesitant shrug, I stepped a little closer to Weiss, trying to ignore the nervous flutter in his chest. Weiss looked up at and nodded both us forming a small smile.

Ruby grabs her Scroll from a pocket on her clothes, but in her excitement, the device is launched from her hands, bouncing along the pavement until it lands at a girls fest

Penny: Oh! (Picks up the Scroll and extends towards the clumsy teen) You dropped this.

Ruby: (shocked) Penny?!

Penny: (similarly surprised) Uuuh...

Ruby: Where have you been? We haven't seen you since that night at the docks!

Penny: S-Sorry. I think you're confused. (She suddenly hiccups, throwing the Scroll into Ruby's hands.) Uh... I've got to go! (She turns quickly and walks away.)

Weiss: (turning to Ruby) What was that about?

Ruby: I don't know, but I'm going to find out. (Ruby starts walking in Penny's direction as she shouts back to her partner:) You go make your call! I'll meet up with you later

Ruby dashed behind Penny while leaving the both of us dumbfounded. Did she even take this mission seriously. Well there's nothing we can do about it right now.

Weiss: Guess it's just the two of us.

Klaus: I guess so.

We walked through the grand loby of the tower. It was spacious and well illuminated. The both of us decided to head straight up to the communication rooms which was at a floor above us. Heading straight for the elevator doors, which slide open automatically and close when we're inside. The voice of the CCT AI is projected from a panel near the door.

CCT AI: Hello. Welcome to the CCT. How may I help you?

Weiss: I'd like to go to the communication rooms please.

Klaus: Same here

CCT AI: Absolutely. Could you please place your Scroll on the terminal to verify your identity?

Both of us placed our schools at the terminal where it scanned them. The lift started moving upwards. I glanced at Weiss who was making weird faces.

Klaus: Do you wanna go to the restroom?

Weiss: No! I was just practicing my smiling.

Klaus: Weird girl....

I mumbled absent mindedly. Weiss scoffed and stomped on my feet with her heels. I yelled in pain

Weiss: I'm sorry did you say something?

Weiss asked me with an ever so sweet smile that made my body shiver up. I shook my head and by then we reached the control room.

CCT AI: (beeps are heard before the projection speaks in a polite manner) Welcome to the Beacon Cross Continental Transmit center. How may I help you?

Weiss: I need to make a call to Schnee Company World Headquarters in Atlas.

CCT AI: Absolutely. (more beeping) If you could head over to Terminal 3, I'll patch you through.

Weiss: Thank you!

Klaus: I'm also making a call right now Weiss, it'll take some time. Once you're done with it, you go on ahead.

Nodding her head, Weiss walked towards the terminal 3

Klaus: I'd like to make a call to the Atlus Military HQ?

CCT AI: Absolutely. (more beeping) If you could head over to Terminal 7, I'll patch you through.

The screen kept on loading at terminal 7 when I finally got connected to the HQ and infront me was the last person I wanted to talk to.

Klaus: Good evening, Schnee

Winter: Good evening Lauren.
