The Edge of VictoryThe mountain pass was a brutal battleground, every inch hard-won, each step a challenge against the Duke's relentless forces. The rebels fought like wolves cornered, every swing of a sword, every blow struck with desperation and purpose. The rain, which had subsided earlier, returned in a torrent, further blurring the line between friend and foe. The ground was slick, making the battle even more unforgiving, but it also gave the rebels an edge—they were used to the terrain, to the unpredictable nature of the fight.
Eliza moved with deadly precision, her muscles sore from the endless hours of training, but her mind sharper than ever. She felt the heat of battle, the surge of adrenaline in her veins, but there was also something else—resolve. She wasn't just fighting to survive anymore. She was fighting for a kingdom that had never believed in her, for a future she had almost given up on.
Alden fought by her side, his movements quick and decisive. She could see the way his eyes burned with the same fire that had ignited in her heart, and for a moment, they were one—their motions synchronized, as though they had been fighting together their entire lives.
"Keep pushing! We've got them on the run!" Elias's voice cut through the chaos, his figure a whirlwind of motion, striking down enemy soldiers with ruthless efficiency.
The rebels began to make headway, slowly forcing the Duke's forces to retreat. The cavalry, once a devastating threat, was now faltering, its riders struggling to regain control as the rebels' arrows rained down from the cliffs above. The tide was shifting, but Eliza knew they couldn't stop until they had driven the Duke's army from the pass entirely.
But just as the rebels began to think they had gained the upper hand, the sound of more reinforcements reached their ears. This time, however, it wasn't more soldiers—it was something far worse.
A cry went up from the rear. A dozen horsemen, clothed in black armor, appeared from behind the rocks and began charging toward the rebels with terrifying speed. At their front rode a man Eliza knew all too well.
It was Prince Julian.
