On a fresh, sunny Sunday morning, Selena woke up with a flutter of excitement in her stomach—today, she was finally going to Olivia's house. After stretching and rolling out of bed, she went to the washroom to get ready, her thoughts filled with ideas about what the day might hold. As she stepped into the kitchen, she found her parents already at the table.
"Good morning, sweetheart," her mom greeted her with a warm smile, setting a plate of toast and jam in front of her.
"Morning!" Selena replied brightly, feeling the contagious happiness radiating from her family.
Her dad chuckled, noticing her unusually cheerful mood. "Someone looks excited," he teased, raising an eyebrow.
Selena grinned. "I am! I don't usually get invited anywhere, so it feels... special." She glanced down, a little shyly, then looked back up with a smile.
Her dad nodded, clearly pleased. "I'm happy for you, Selena. Olivia seems like a nice friend to have."
"Yeah, she really is," Selena replied, her face lighting up. "I think we're going to have fun."
As she finished breakfast and went to her room, Selena picked out her outfit with care. She chose a cozy autumn sweater and jeans—simple yet perfect for the cool air. She glanced at herself in the mirror and couldn't help but smile; she felt like this new side of her was someone her family had longed to see.
When she walked back to the living room, her dad was by the door, keys in hand. "Ready, Miss Sunday Adventure?" he joked.
"Ready!" Selena said, clutching her bag.
Just then, Kevin ran over, looking hopeful. "Can I go with you guys? I wanna see Olivia's house too!" he begged, tugging at his dad's shirt.
Selena laughed, ruffling his hair. "Maybe next time, Kev," she said, smiling but firm.
"But it's not fair!" Kevin whined, crossing his arms.
Their mom joined in with a gentle laugh, placing a reassuring hand on Kevin's shoulder. "Let Selena have her day, Kev. You'll get your own adventures soon enough."
Kevin sighed, clearly disappointed but willing to let it go. With a final wave to her mom and Kevin, Selena and her dad stepped out, and she couldn't help but glance at the autumn colors filling the neighborhood streets. Today, everything felt just a little brighter.
As they drove through Barcelona, Selena's dad glanced over, asking, "Alright, what's Olivia's address?"
"She lives at 12 Passeig de Gràcia, near La Pedrera," Selena replied with a smile.
Her dad's eyes widened a bit. "Passeig de Gràcia, huh? Quite the neighborhood. Olivia's family must be doing well to live there."
Selena nodded. "Yeah, her dad's a neurosurgeon, and I think her mom's a business lawyer."
Her dad gave an approving nod, smiling. "Impressive! And yet, she seems like such a good friend to you. That's what matters." He gave her a playful nudge. "I'm proud of you, kiddo. You've got a good eye for friends."
Blushing, Selena laughed. "Thanks, Dad. She really is nice—and not stuck-up at all. I think you'd like her."
As Selena stepped out of the car, she couldn't help but be impressed by the sleek, modern design of Olivia's house. The building was tall, with large windows that gave it a minimalist, contemporary look. The garage had four cars parked in it, including a shiny black SUV that Selena recognized as Olivia's family's main vehicle.
She stood for a moment, taking it all in, when Olivia appeared from the door, walking down the small set of stairs with a wide smile on her face. She was dressed casually, wearing a cozy sweater and jeans, yet she still radiated an effortless elegance.
