As Selena reached home, the warm hues of the setting sun spilled through the windows, signaling the end of a long day. Her mom greeted her with a smile, Kevin bouncing alongside her, brimming with energy.
"How was your day, mi niña?" her mom asked, gently setting a hand on Selena's shoulder.
"It was great, mamá," Selena replied, a faint smile tugging at her lips as she set her bag down.
Kevin, ever the curious one, piped up, "Did you go to Olivia's house? Is that why it was great?"
Selena chuckled, shaking her head. "No, not Olivia's. And tomorrow, I'm going out with a friend."
Her mom glanced at her, raising a brow. "A friend? Who?"
"Just...a friend," Selena replied, trying to sound casual but feeling her cheeks heat up.
Kevin, ever inquisitive, leaned closer. "If you go to Olivia's house again, take me with you, okay?"
Selena ruffled his hair playfully. "Sure, Kev. You'll be my plus one next time."
Dinner was a lively affair, filled with Kevin's stories and her mom's warm laughter. But as the plates were cleared and everyone retreated to their rooms, Selena lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
Her mind drifted to the events of the day—the way Daniel had looked at her, his charming smile, and his cryptic promise of a surprise. Exhaustion weighed on her, but the curiosity about tomorrow lingered.
"Where is he taking me?" she whispered to herself before finally drifting off to sleep.
Meanwhile, back at Daniel's mansion, the evening stretched into night, and yet his mind offered him no peace.
He paced his room, running a hand through his jet-black hair in frustration. The soft glow of the lamp cast long shadows, mirroring the tangle of thoughts in his head.
"Where should I take her?" he muttered, his voice laced with genuine concern. "I told her it was a surprise, but...I don't even know what she likes."
He stopped by the window, gazing out at the moonlit garden, his reflection faintly visible in the glass. What if I take her somewhere boring? Or worse, what if she hates it? The thought made his stomach twist uncomfortably.
The memory of her laughter from earlier in the day flickered through his mind, her delicate smile as she explained the assignment, the way she tucked her hair behind her ear without realizing it. It wasn't just about impressing her anymore—it was about making her happy.
He sat on the edge of his bed, leaning forward, his elbows resting on his knees. "What makes her light up like that?" he asked himself softly, as if the answer might come from the quiet of the room.
Reaching for his phone, he considered texting her to ask outright but hesitated. "No, I can't ruin the surprise," he muttered. Instead, he searched for ideas, scrolling through places and activities. Each option seemed either too ordinary or too extravagant.
Finally, he flopped back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his thoughts a swirl of nerves and excitement.
"I just want it to be perfect," he whispered. "She deserves that."
On the other side of town, Rafael lay in his bed, staring at the ceiling, the dim light from his phone casting an eerie glow in the dark room.
Sleep felt like an impossible task as his thoughts churned relentlessly. Mateo's words replayed in his head like a broken record: "Daniel's planning something special for Selena."
"Where could he take her?" Rafael muttered under his breath, his jaw tightening. He turned to his side, punching his pillow in frustration, hoping to ease the unease clawing at him.
The room felt suffocating, the silence amplifying his inner turmoil. He sat up abruptly, running a hand through his messy hair.
"Why do I even care? It's just a stupid bet." His words were sharp, but they rang hollow, the weight in his chest betraying his denial.
He paced the small space, his bare feet brushing against the cool wooden floor. Every scenario he conjured only made his frustration grow. Would Daniel take her somewhere grand to show off? Or perhaps somewhere quiet and thoughtful, to win her over with charm?
Rafael clenched his fists, his pulse quickening. Why am I letting this get to me? he thought angrily.
Yet, the answer lingered unspoken in his heart—a mix of jealousy, protectiveness, and something far more confusing.
Finally, he threw himself back onto the bed, staring at the shadows on the ceiling. "Whatever," he muttered, though the word felt as bitter as the knot in his stomach.
He turned on his side, pulling the blanket over his head, determined to block out the thoughts.
But the image of Selena's smile wouldn't leave him, nor the idea of Daniel being the one to make her laugh tomorrow.
Back at Daniel's mansion.
Suddenly, an idea struck Daniel like lightning. His face lit up with excitement as he whispered to himself, "That's perfect." The stress melted from his features, replaced by a confident grin. He grabbed his phone, quickly making a note of his plan, ensuring every detail would be flawless.
"This will definitely impress her," he murmured, a satisfied chuckle escaping his lips. The thought of seeing Selena smile made him feel oddly lighthearted.
Daniel stretched out on his bed, his earlier worries gone, replaced with a surge of anticipation.
As he closed his eyes, a dreamy expression lingered on his face. His mind replayed flashes of Selena's reactions, imagining her surprise, her laughter, and the way her eyes would light up.
"She's going to love it," he said softly before drifting off to sleep, his dreams filled with thoughts of her.
But what was on Daniel's mind? Where is he planning to take Selena? Is his idea as perfect as he believes, or will his plan fall apart? Let's see what happens next.
