THE TRAIN RIDE BACK TO TWO IS AGONISINGLY LONG. My eyes are angered and my jaw is clenched. I'm staring at my hands. These games... Carabelle will have to go through it all again. It angers me. It enrages me. How can they do this? How can they make her go through this again? She's the only female victor in District Twelve, it has to be her to go back into the games.
Snow did this. He's done this because she's bringing people hope. She's a spark that needs to ignite into a flame. I've seen what's been happening, these small acts of defiance. They might be small, but they're still defying the Capitol. I can tell Snow if afraid, he's afraid of what she'll become. He's afraid of the hope she's bringing, because she saved my life too.
She made us both win. She pushed the Capitol, forced them to make a decision which has proved how thin their control really is. And I'll be by her side in this fight, even if it means going back into the Games. Because I would do that for her. And I know she would do that for me if she needed too. I'd try and talk her out of it, beg her not too, but she'd do it to protect me.
Because that's what we do, we protect each other. The train comes to a stop and I turn my cold eyes to the door. I stand up and watch as it opens. Peacekeepers are lined outside and I make my way out, my hands in my pockets. I need to see Cara again, and I will, only in the games, again. I walk down the steps of the train and my eyes move to Enobaria who stands opposite me. It's dark, but I can recognise her.
"Long time no see." She calls out to me and I can hear the train start to move from behind me. "Congratulations on winning, and yet you didn't even come see us after." I stay silent and notice Brutus isn't here. "He's not here, he's resting. His health has declined, and you'd know that if you were here." I step closer to her, frowning. "How bad is he?" A street light shines down on us.
"He'll live, for now." She says to me and the two of stand in silent before she pulls me into a hug. "C'mere kid. I've missed you." Enobaria says to me and I smile slightly. "I've missed you too." Enobaria moves away and her face turns cold. "I know you've heard the news, and I know you know what it means for your fiancé." I nod my head at her words.
"I was shocked to find out about you both, I didn't expect you to fall for a girl in the games." Enobaria says to me and glances around us. "I'm glad you've found someone Cato. She seems kind." I hum at her words, nodding. "She is. Which is why I'm volunteering." Enobaria lets out a sigh. "I knew you'd say that. But they won't let you both out alive again. You will die." I know I will. But I will gladly sacrifice my life to save Carabelle's.
"I know, but she needs to live." We walk down the street beside each other. It's so different to twelve here. I mean, I already knew that, but seeing the difference after being in them both is sickening. I never knew how grateful I was to grow up in Two and not Twelve. No wonder Carabelle was so thin and small when we met, there's not enough food to go around. People are starving and dying, but I've been doing my best to help people.
