Much to Elena's surprise, Damon had been right. It had been a few days of nothing until Klaus had finally showed up at Elena's school with his sister and Stefan. Damon didn't even show his face. For one, it wasn't his business anymore. He'd already got Love and Stefan was here.
Another thing was, he was a bit... afraid of what Klaus may have in store for him. He'd questioned Love about any and everything that she'd seen and what they had done while she was with them. Fortunately, it seemed like Klaus had some type of heart, because he didn't allow her to see anything gruesome. Love had admitted that Klaus, although aggressive, had been somewhat kind to her.
She was afraid of him, yes. She was startled by how much he yelled, threw things and hurt people when he was angry. Even though he'd never truly hurt her, she knew what he was capable of.
Damon knew that if Klaus was this... careful with her, he might've grown a liking to her. It made Damon's head thump just picturing it. His Love asking Klaus what they should do today, what she should wear or eat. He took a sip of his drink, his thoughts sending him into a small spiral as he stared into the fireplace of his foyer. Elena, Jeremy and Stefan were all at school, Stefan without his emotions was now babysitting Elena for Klaus so she didn't do anything crazy to his doppleganger blood.
Love shuffled back into the room, steaming mug of hot cocoa in hand. She kept her eyes focused on it, only glancing up now and again to see if Damon had moved from his spot. She was moving way too slow, and the sound of her slippers on the hardwood had Damon turning to her giving an exasperated look.
"Did you fill it to the top again?"
"I did and I spilled a little bit on my slipper, Day." She whined, blowing at the steam that her cocoa kept producing. Damon cackled, Love, like always, pulling him from the dumpster fire that was his negative thoughts. He didn't wait for her to make it to him, he just waltzed over and took the mug from him. Vampire reflexes helped him not spill it, and vampire healing helped when he stole a long sip so it was easier for her to carry. Yes, it burned his mouth but it was only for a few seconds.
She didn't even protest, every thing Damon did was good for her. His presence didn't make her head talk shit. She could eat now, it was safe enough for that. She'd even slept for nearly a whole day her first day back. No nightmares, sleep walking, or hallucinations.
Damon had never seen her do those things anyway, he'd only ever heard of it from Ric. But Stefan had updated him, even with his emotions off he still tried looking out for Love. He'd told Damon all about how she'd behaved, about he panic attacks and everything else. It made Damon feel worse about not protecting her. About almost dying and even though he didn't do it, for just thinking about kissing Elena during a moment of weakness.
But again, Love didn't need to know that part.
"Thank you, Day." She cooed once he'd handed the mug back, and Damon sent back a warm grin. Eyes shining with amusement and touches of the adoration that always appeared when he looked at her.
"Stop being cute, Klaus is still here and still not happy about your rescue mission. Thanks for leaving me, by the way." Stefan waltzed into the room looking annoyed as ever, his lack of emotions made him quite the character. Love found him funny most of the time, but there were times where he was so rude to Damon she wanted to be rude back for him.
"Nikki is still here?" She asked, looking utterly confused.
"Don't call him Nikki, he wants to kill me." Damon bit, forcing on a small smile when she sent an incredulous look his way. She didn't know that... She didn't know a lot, and times like this where she was so annoyed that they all saw her as a child and didn't tell her everything.
