The village nestled deep within a rain-soaked forest in Thailand had a beauty both enchanting and melancholic. Towering trees with thick, interlocking branches formed a natural canopy above, sheltering the village and trapping mist and rain. Drops of water slid off wide leaves, creating a constant, soothing patter as if the forest itself whispered secrets to those who would listen. When the rain let up, the scent of wet earth mingled with the heady aroma of blooming wildflowers, and the entire village seemed to breathe in unison.

Above it all, the moon hung like a silent, silver sentinel in the sky. On clear nights, it cast its glow over the treetops, turning the leaves into a shimmering, pale green sea. It touched the narrow dirt paths with light so soft it seemed almost hesitant, as if respecting the fragile peace of this isolated corner of the world. To some, it was a place of solace, but to Prem, it was a place he could not escape......a beautiful cage wrapped in sorrow.

Prem lived in a small, dilapidated house at the edge of the village, where the forest pressed close, almost as if to offer him a protective embrace he never felt at home. Inside, the air was thick with the sour stench of alcohol and unspoken anger. The creaking floorboards beneath Prem's feet were as familiar as the sound of his father's curses. He had long since learned to move quietly, hoping to avoid drawing attention.
"Worthless boy!" his father's slurred voice bellowed from the other room. "You're the reason she's gone. Everything I loved....gone because of you!" The words, as familiar as the walls themselves, stung no less for their frequency. Prem kept his eyes lowered, focusing on not making any sound. But a sudden crash....a bottle hitting the wall....sent a shiver down his spine. He knew better than to look back or respond.
