Boun, Kael, and Arden moved to a quieter spot within the pack's gathering area. The air was heavy with tension as they prepared for the difficult conversation ahead. Boun's eyes were cold, his jaw set as he faced his trusted lieutenants.

"Alex is back," Boun began, his voice low but commanding. "He's using my mercy against me."

Kael's eyes narrowed. "Mercy? That monster deserved to be ended, Boun... He's always been a threat, and you knew it."

Boun clenched his fists, a flash of frustration crossing his face. "I don't kill without reason, Kael.... You know that.... I gave him a chance because every being deserves the opportunity to change... I believed there was still some part of him that could walk away from this violence."

Arden crossed his arms, his expression grim. "And now he's back with a vengeance, dragging humans and innocent lives into his vendetta.... That mercy may have cost us dearly."

Boun shook his head, the weight of his choices evident in his eyes. "I know... Trust me, I know. But killing him then, on my own, wouldn't have been right either.... I thought he'd learn from being spared... I thought wrong."

Kael leaned forward, his voice urgent. "This isn't just about your mercy, Boun... Alex met with Prem... That's a message to you....and a threat. He's already targeting what you care about."

Boun's expression darkened, his protective instincts flaring. "Exactly... By confronting Prem, Alex made it clear he's not going to stop... He's warning us... He's making this personal."

Arden exhaled sharply. "Which means we need to be prepared... The pack has to be on high alert. No one leaves the territory without protection."

Boun nodded. "Agreed. But it's more than that. Alex will use deception and provoke humans against us if he can. He thrives on chaos. We can't let him divide us or expose us."

Kael's gaze softened momentarily. "Prem is brave, Boun, but he's still human. He can't protect himself against wolves like Alex."

"That's why we need to make sure he isn't alone," Boun said, his voice steady but filled with determination. "Alex thinks I'll weaken because of my bond with Prem... He's wrong.... If anything, it makes me stronger."

Arden's eyes flickered with approval. "We'll stand with you, Alpha.... But what's our next move?"

Boun paused, considering every option. "We protect our borders... We keep watch over the village, too...Alex will try to stir trouble there, hoping to turn the humans against us. But we don't act recklessly.... I need to know what he's planning."

Kael tilted his head. "So... you still want to give him another chance?"

"No," Boun replied, his voice as cold as ice. "I want to end this, but with every wolf and human protected.... If Alex forces my hand again, I'll do what needs to be done." He looked at Kael and Arden with unflinching eyes. "But we won't become like him.... Prem helped me see that."

The three exchanged determined glances. The challenge ahead was daunting, but with their bond and their pack's unity, they would not back down.

"Then we stand ready," Kael said, his voice resolute.

"Always," Arden echoed.

Boun nodded. "Prepare the pack. Whatever happens, we face this together."
