Four Days Later
It had only been a few days since Chilli finalized her divorce, and things at the Cattle household had been fairly normal. Chilli was doing well, no longer dwelling on the past, and seemed more relaxed than ever. Calypso was her usual self, playing the role of the fun and supportive aunt. Meanwhile, Y/N, the happy two-year-old, continued to bring joy to everyone. And Rosie, Y/N’s grandmother, was also doing great, her sharp wit and vibrant personality lighting up the house as usual.
On the other side of town, however, another family was struggling. Their ongoing drama pushed one member to the brink, prompting them to leave and seek comfort from an old friend.
Back at the Cattle household, Chilli sat on the couch with Y/N asleep on her lap, chatting casually with Calypso.
Chilli: "You know, I’ve been thinking about getting a new car soon."
Calypso: "Hmm… I mean, that’s up to you. But your truck still runs great. Do you really need a new one?"
Before Chilli could reply, the sound of Rosie's voice carried through the room. She was walking down the stairs in her nightgown, talking on the phone.
Rosie (on the phone): "Dang, girl, I didn’t know it got that bad!"
Chilli and Calypso exchanged curious looks, their conversation now forgotten.
Rosie (on the phone): "So, what are you going to do? Stay with him? Because if I were you, I’d have left in a heartbeat."
Chilli leaned toward Calypso and whispered, "Looks like I’m not the only one with man problems."
Both of them chuckled softly, careful not to interrupt the call.
Rosie (on the phone): "Yeah… I get it. Well, I’m at home with my daughters and grandson, so if you need to talk, you’re always welcome here. I miss you!"
At this point, both Chilli and Calypso raised their eyebrows. Something about Rosie’s tone stood out.
Rosie (on the phone): "Alright, love you too, girl. See you soon."
She hung up and sighed, turning to find Chilli and Calypso staring at her with amused curiosity.
Chilli: "Ma, I don’t usually ask, but… who was that?"
Rosie: "Oh, just a close friend of mine from childhood. We haven’t seen each other in years, but she’s stopping by soon to catch up."
Chilli: "That’s nice, but it sounded like she’s going through something."
Rosie nodded as she sat down near Chilli.
Rosie: "Yeah, her family’s caught up in a lot of drama right now. She needed some space, especially since her husband decided to stick his nose in it. She just couldn’t take it anymore, so she’s coming here to clear her head."
Calypso: "That’s rough."
Rosie: "It is. I’m thinking of letting her stay for a few days if she needs to."
Chilli: "Not to sound rude, but where would she sleep?"
Rosie: "With me, of course. I’ve got a king-sized bed, plenty of room. And we used to share beds all the time when we were younger."
