Sunday, August 6th
Two days until the big day. High school. I keep saying it in my head to try to get used to it, but so far it's just making me more nervous. Like, what if I accidentally walk into the wrong classroom, or worse—what if I trip in front of everyone and become the guy known as "That Kid Who Can't Walk"? There are just so many ways to mess this up, and I'm great at finding them.
Today, I tried to do a little "prep" for the first day by going through my schedule. Spoiler alert: I have no idea what half of it even means. What does "Advanced P.E." even involve? Am I supposed to be doing backflips by the end of the semester? I asked Mom about it, and she just laughed and said, "You'll figure it out." That's the thing about parents. They're always so chill, like they've already figured out the secret of surviving high school. Meanwhile, I'm over here Googling "How to Survive Your First Day" like it's some sort of life-or-death situation.
So, I spent the rest of the day hanging with the guys to try and get my mind off it. We were at the park, throwing around a football (mostly just throwing it at each other's faces), and complaining about how everything's going to change. Ben's already talking about how he's going to make all the freshmen "bow down" to him (he's not as intimidating as he thinks). Alex is just in it for the snack machines, and Leo keeps muttering about how he's going to be the first to skip a class without getting caught. I'm more interested in how many weird "first day of school" photos I'll be forced to take with my mom before I'm allowed to leave the house.
Tomorrow's the big day. I think I'm ready, but I'll probably end up standing in the wrong hallway, staring at a map like it's written in some alien language. If I survive the first day, I'll consider it a win.
Two days left. High school, here I come—or maybe it's more like I'm stumbling my way there.
