The next day, Jax was back in the locker room, his side heavily bandaged. He gave Ethan a hard look, nodding in approval. "You saved us last night. You're ready."

But even as the praise flowed, Ethan could sense something was off. Jax was distant, colder than before. As the weeks passed, Ethan noticed more changes. Jax started showing up to practices late, and sometimes not at all. His behavior became erratic, and rumors began to swirl about his involvement in things that had nothing to do with basketball.

One day, Ethan found Jax in the back of the school parking lot, looking agitated, pacing back and forth.

"Jax, what's going on?" Ethan asked, walking toward him cautiously.

Jax looked up, his eyes wild. "Don't ask questions you don't want answers to, Ethan. Just stay out of my business, alright?"

But Ethan refused to back down. "I'm your friend. You need to talk about this. Whatever's going on, I can help."

Jax's expression shifted from anger to frustration, and for a moment, Ethan saw a glimpse of the person he used to know — the Jax who had taken him under his wing, the Jax who had helped him grow.

"I'm fine," Jax said, his voice hollow. "Just don't follow me."

But Ethan couldn't let it go. That night, he found himself outside the school gym again, but this time, it wasn't for basketball. He was searching for Jax. The rumors were growing worse — whispers of drugs, fights, and behavior that could ruin everything. And now, Ethan needed to know the truth.
