those few days past by very quick and before i knew it, the ball was tomorrow. i sit on the ravenclaw table with cho and luna whilst we are eating morning food. people are talking about the ball that i am dreading, but part of me has just gotten used to it. i'm not so worried about going anymore, even though im probably going to break down there when i see draco.
,,you okay y/n?" cho asks softly.
,,yeah...yeah i am." i smile.
my smile fades quickly as i look up and see draco's face glaring into mine. i immediately look away and pretend to be busy but i feel his eyes still on mine. i look up and our eyes lock again. a slight smirk appears on his lips and he doesn't break the eye contact. my heart skips a beat as he smirks and i snap my head away, paying attention to my plate.
a billion questions filled my mind, the ball was looming, and i still didn't know what to expect. would he even acknowledge me when we were face-to-face? would we be strangers, lost in a room full of laughter and music? or would it all come crashing down, the tension between us snapping like a rope stretched too thin?
cho and luna must have been taking to me but i was zoned out. i come back to reality once i hear the words... ,,well, you're coming with us, right? we've still got to figure out your dress situation. don't leave it too late!" luna calls.
i nodded, my fingers nervously tracing the edge of my plate. my thoughts were a tangled mess, swirling around everything and nothing at once. — after classes, me cho and luna go into hogsmeade and slip into 'gladrags wizardwear' –a shop that sells all types of clothes and ball dresses.
cho and luna are obviously more excited as i am. luna walks into the shop and a purple dress comes into sight. luna walks over to it and picks it up.
,,how unique." luna mumbles to herself. me and cho give each other a 'she's definitely getting that' look.
,,that'll suit you for sure!" cho says.
,,yeah, you should try it on." i smile.
luna walks over to the changing room and i browse through some dresses as cho goes down another isle. i see a long silky gown hanging near the back of the shop. it's a deep emerald green, with delicate silver details that shimmer under the light. i run my fingers over the fabric, the cool material soft against my skin. for a moment, i imagine what it would feel like to wear it, to walk into the ball wearing something so stunning. but then reality creeps back in—what would be the point?
,,that one's beautiful," cho says, suddenly appearing by my side. ,,you should try it on."
i shake my head. ,,i don't know if it's really me."
