Advait sat at his desk, his fingers drumming rhythmically against the surface, his eyes fixated on the endless reports and documents in front of him.
The weight of the day was heavy on his shoulders. Though the title of 'temporary CEO' had been thrust upon him amid chaos, it still came with a sense of authority that made his heart race with dangerous excitement.
His phone buzzed beside him, pulling him out of his thoughts. Glancing at the screen, he saw Siya's name. He smiled to himself and picked up the call.
“Hello my baby's mumma,” he said, his voice sounding lighter than it had all day.
“Hello to you too my baby's dada! I was thinking about your lunch,” she chirped from the other end, her tone cheerful and innocent, unaware of the storm brewing in her husband's mind. “When are you coming home? Please come soon, I am waiting and even the baby's also hungry.”
Advait’s fingers instinctively tightened around the phone, and he leaned back in his chair, exhaling softly. “I can’t, Siya. Not today.”
There was a pause. “Oh? Something came up?” she asked, her voice curious.
“I’ve been handed the position of temporary CEO for Rajvansh Corporations by bhai sa until bhabhi ma is not found.” The words left his mouth with a strange sense of pride, despite knowing it was only temporary.
The thought of sitting in that chair, in control of everything Hriday had built, stirred something inside him.
Siya was quiet for a moment, absorbing the news. “That’s huge, Advait. But remember, it’s temporary. Don’t let it get to your head, okay? Don’t raise your expectations too high.”
Her words, though filled with care, felt like an itch Advait couldn’t scratch.
He shifted in his chair, his expression hardening slightly. Don't get greedy. Don't raise your expectations.
The words echoed in his mind, mingling with another voice. One that wasn’t Siya’s. One that had been haunting his thoughts for days now.
That person. The person who had been whispering to him, pushing him, urging him to take what was rightfully his.
“You deserve more, Advait,” the voice echoed in his mind.
“You’ve worked just as hard as Hriday.
You’ve been in his shadow long enough.
What about your future?
Your family’s future?
