Chapter 35

Charlotte's pov

To say that I was frustrated was an understatement at this point. I was frustrated with myself from not being able to talk like a proper human being in front of Engfa. And I was really frustrated because Sun came into the room when I was about to finally get the point. Now I was in the hallway with no idea what I was going to do next... I had just said I was heading out... but to go where and do what? I had seen Jeff enough for today...

My feet walked me to the office next door where Meena and Nudee were working. Some soft pop music was playing and they turned it off when I came in.

"No, no. Turn the music back on. I like it." I said.

"Oh, sorry. I thought you wanted to talk about work." Nudee winked.

Meena looked at her with an amused smile and tilted her head, nodding to me making some sort of "what's up?" face. These girls...

"Yeah... I just needed to chill for a while... but I can go if I'm messing with your ability to focus..." I apologized.

"No way! You're staying." Meena stated.

"What's shaking?" Nudee asked with a playful smile but a genuine look in her eyes.

"I... I don't know... I think I just needed a minute to breathe out."

"Boss making you crazy?" Meena asked.

"Nawat is pretty weird, I'm not gonna lie..." I admitted.

"No, I meant Engfa. Boss Lady."

"Oh... No, Engfa is fine."

So damn fine... I couldn't help but think about her naked body on my bed...

"So! How are you guys?" I asked, trying to shift my focus.

Nudee and Meena chatted with me about everything and nothing. Nudee shared that she was seeing a new guy and that she didn't really know if she could trust him. Meena and Aoom seemed to be just fine, working together in a different way had made them closer over the last few days.

"You make a great couple." I smiled.

"If you could just stop making out in the restrooms..." Nudee whined.

"Hey! It happened once!" Meena defended herself.

"Well maybe but my eyes got scarred for life..."

"That's a lie. We're gorgeous, nothing you saw could hurt you..."

"Try to remember what we said about PDA." I intervened.

"It only happened once, I swear Charlotte. We just rizzed each other a bit too much and couldn't keep our hands off..."

"Aaaahhh, lalalalalalaaa!" Nudee sung, plugging her fingers in her ears.

It seemed to be so easy for Meena and Aoom... So why was it so complicated for Engfa and I?

"Meena, can I ask how you guys got together?"

"They met. They crushed. They fucked two days later and bam." Nudee said, hiding her eyes now.

Meena slapped Nudee's knee.

"Ouch!"

"She's right." Meena admitted.

"Oh, really? It seems so... simple."

"Effective." Meena nodded with a smile.

"Wow. You were never scared that she didn't like you or..."

"No time to be scared. I knew I wanted her. And the way she looked at me was enough to tell me that she was feeling the same. I didn't know I was going to fall in love with her though."

"You just wanted to shag her." Nudee pointed before Nudee slapped her knee again.

"That's also true." Meena said.

"So why do you keep on beating me up??" Nudee asked.

We laughed for a while until a sharp pain awakened deep inside me, making me wince.

"Ouch." I said, checking my phone.

Fuck... My period was coming, I had totally forgotten about it. Maybe that was why I was feeling all over the place and a bit mad...

"Girls, I'm gonna have to go. Thank you for welcoming me for a while, I'm feeling way better now." I said, even though my insides were going to get more and more painful soon.


Engfa's pov

The opportunity to be alone with Charlotte didn't present itself on Monday afternoon... and no more on Tuesday... On Wednesday I was getting pretty much... MAD. I thought about sending her texts through GI chat... but I wasn't sure this was a safe way... and it felt so weird asking for her number... I was starting to feel on edge and slightly annoyed by everything and everyone around me. There was always something getting in the way of me having a little bit of time with just Charlotte... At some point I even thought about following her into the bathroom... But creeped myself out just with the idea of it...

By Thursday, Charlotte looked pretty tired and a little bit out of it. And that was when my period decided to make me remember that I was a woman... and that it was clearly why I was this much upset lately... I realized that Charlotte was probably undergoing the same thing since we had already talked about the matter. I smiled as the memory of Charlotte saying that Pitchy wasn't helping with her mood when she got her period came back to me.

"Engfa?" Sun asked and I was already annoyed about whatever he was going to tell me.

"What?" I sighed.

Sun didn't reply, looking at me with his eyebrows all raised up. Charlotte was also looking at me weird from across her desk.

"S... sorry... I'm cranky... Period." I apologized.

"Do you need some painkillers?" Charlotte asked, looking through her drawer.

"I... thanks." I said, as she gave me a cute little pill container.

"I was just going to ask if you were still on board with your donut plan since we didn't do it yet..." Sun said.

"Oh, yes! Sorry, I forgot. We can do it today."

"Donuts?" Charlotte asked, interested.

"It's a secret plan." Sun winked.

"Oh ok."

"I'll tell you about it when Sun will be out." Engfa winked too, sticking her tongue out to him.

"I'll go now and eat lunch outside. I'll be back around 2pm. You guys behave while I'm away, ok?" Sun said, taking his stuff from the coat hanger.

"I don't make promises I can't keep." Charlotte joked.

"Ok... Then... go wild." Sun laughed and left.

I chuckled... Going wild with Charlotte was something I would very much like to do... If I weren't on my period... and if I weren't the coward I was being lately...

"So... What's the secret plan?" Charlotte asked, resting her chin on her fists as she put her elbows on her desk.

So cute...

"Erm... I asked Sun to go buy those mochi donuts..."

"Oh, the ones that Snack brought once?" Charlotte seemed excited about it.

"Yes! So good, right?"

"So good! I crave sugar so bad..."

"Oh? Well, I wanted to say thank you to the team for all the hard work they've been putting in lately... So I thought..."

"That's a good idea."

"Thanks..." I said, feeling kinda shy for whatever reason.

"I'm on my period too." Charlotte said.

I smiled with her, sharing a moment of compassion for one another felt good.

"It's so annoying... I hate feeling like this..." I sighed.

"It will be over soon. I... I could take care of you... If you're sore and tired."

"I... How?" I asked, feeling my heart speeding up.

Charlotte bit her bottom lip, looking like she needed a few seconds before she finally was able to talk again.

"Maybe you could come to my place during the weekend? I have some magical tea that helps with cramps and a very soft heat pad. We could watch dramas and..."

I was suddenly really moved by her offer. Maybe it was because of my hormones going crazy right now but I felt a swirl of emotions crashing inside me. Charlotte really wanted to take care of me... in a way maybe no one ever did. She was inviting me to her place again... when I didn't find any nerve to ask her out... Charlotte wanted to see me again... Wow...

"I would love that." I nodded, feeling the smile spreading on my face.

"Damn..."

The way she was looking at me was so... unique.

"What?"

"I missed your dimples." Charlotte said, her eyes shining.

I couldn't stop smiling... and most probably blushing too.


Charlotte's pov

I was so happy to have asked her to come over during the weekend. It wasn't really like I had managed to ask her out properly... but the result was the same, right? She was going to come to my apartment... and we were going to spend time together... all cozy and cuddly... I took a post-it note and wrote my address on it.

"Here." I said to Engfa, getting up to give it to her.

"Thanks." she said, reading it and blushing again.

"I don't want you to get lost on your way there." I winked.

"When should I come?"

I wanted to answer "right now, let's go" but I knew that would make me sound crazy... And I probably was at this point... But I stopped myself.

"Mmm... what about Saturday afternoon?" I offered.

I didn't want to sound too needy by asking her to be with me on Friday night... Our... relationship... if that was what it was... was just starting. I was afraid to push her away by acting too clingy... Plus she was my manager... All this was... complex and it even felt a little bit risky.

"Should I take... you know... my stuff for the night?" she asked, looking half shy and half daring.

Engfa was showing the same signs as me... Like she was also trying to find some balance between her intentions and the situation we were currently putting ourselves into... I needed to make her understand that I really wanted her here, even though I wanted to act chill about it... Ugh... Why was I making things this complicated? Come on, Charlotte!

"Yes. You're definitely staying the night." I replied before getting back to my seat.

Engfa's smile was so bright... Damn she was cute when she looked happy... She was so different now... When I met her she seemed cold and rarely showed emotions at all.

We managed to get back on track with work after that but we couldn't help looking at each other from time to time, smiling shyly. Sun came back with his arms full of boxes, which were themselves full of mochi donuts. Engfa got up and went to fetch the whole team, inviting the girls to share hot tea and donuts in the break room.

"I just wanted to thank each and everyone of you. A lot of things have changed lately and you girls..."

"And Sun." Sun added.

"Right, you girls AND Sun..." Engfa winked.

Everybody chuckled.

"... did an amazing job. I can see how invested you all are in your respective tasks and I'm... I feel like..." Engfa's voice started to shake a little bit.

Fuck. She was getting emotional. My eyes met Sun's who gave me a "oh-oh" look, not knowing what to do either. We both looked at Engfa who was trying to get herself in check. She looked at Sun who just nodded. And then she looked at me. At that moment, it was like everybody else had disappeared. I smiled, my eyes getting watery too. Damn hormones, I lied to myself.

"Go on." I mouthed without a sound, trying to say to Engfa that it was ok to cry.

"... I'm just really proud of you as a team. I... Thank you for your hard work." Engfa bowed her head down slightly, joining her hands in front of her face, letting the tears fall down as she closed her eyes.
