Let It Out

the meeting in front of her wasn't exactly entertaining. her label was discussing new plans, release strategies, and tour ideas. it still felt strange to her how, almost accidentally, she'd written an album. one day, the songs were just notes in her phone, and the next, they were full demos, ready to be something more.
it had taken her a while to decide, but now that the announcement was days away, it all felt terrifyingly real. there was still the matter of rethinking the tracklist—too many songs were personal, too many felt like they were screaming things she wasn't ready to admit. sharing new music, planning the tour dates—it was enough to keep her occupied, enough to stop her mind from wandering too far down roads she wasn't ready to face.
"gracie, the 29th—it's going to be," one of the executives said, breaking her out of her thoughts.
"yeah..." she smiled softly, nodding. "sounds good."
"great. we'll touch base again then," another chimed in, starting to wrap things up.
the group exchanged brief goodbyes, gracie stayed quiet, letting the voices fade as the meeting ended. the screen flashed, showing her own reflection for a moment before she closed the laptop with a soft sigh.
gracie leaned back, her head tilting against the sofa. she stared at the ceiling for a moment, debating what to do next. rest? write? scroll aimlessly until her brain numbed itself? eventually, she picked up her phone and opened instagram, liking a few posts before switching to tiktok, where she commented on and liked a handful of videos. her scrolling spree ended on twitter.
the first post she saw on her feed made her smile.

her hair shorter than the last time gracie had seen her. gracie stared at the picture longer than she should have, trying to memorize the slight differences in gabriella's appearance. it was silly, but the realization hit—she'd never know when gabriella got a haircut anymore, never hear the excitement in her voice when she discovered a new song she loved or ramble about a movie she couldn't stop thinking about.
she locked her phone, tossing it onto the coffee table as if that would make the feelings go away. pressing her palms against her face, she took a deep breath, willing herself to move past it.
"baby, remember that burberry event we were invited to?" harry called as he walked downstairs.
gracie exhaled, grateful for the break from her thoughts.
"yeah," she replied, offering him a smile.
"well, they said i could play my music since i brought in so many people." he chuckled, clearly proud of himself.
