The Park mansion sat on the outskirts of Seoul city, hidden behind towering iron gates and a lush garden that masked its dark secrets. Inside, the atmosphere was tense. Ryuvyna stood in the grand living room, her arms crossed, glaring at Jayden.
"I'm not a pawn in your war," she said, her voice firm despite the fear bubbling beneath her calm facade.
Jayden, seated in a leather armchair, rubbed his temples. "You're not a pawn, Ryuvyna. You're my sister. My responsibility."
Ryuvyna scoffed. "Responsibility? By dragging me into this? I wanted nothing to do with your world!"
His icy blue eyes locked onto hers. "This isn't about what you want. They came for you, Ryuvyna. If I hadn't been there, you'd be---"
"I would've handled it!" she interrupted.
A silence fell between them. Jayden's second-in-command, Victor, entered the room, his dark suit still damp from the rain. He placed a file on the table.
"We identified the men who came after her," Victor said. "They work for the Jeon family."
Ryuvyna's stomach sank. The Jeon family was the Park clan's fiercest rival, a name whispered only in fear. Jayden picked up the file, his expression unreadable as he scanned the contests.
"They think using you will weaken me," Jayden muttered, more to himself than anyone else. His grip tightened on the file. "They're wrong."
Ryuvyna stepped forward. "What does this mean? Are they going to come after me again?"
Jayden stood, his towering figure casting a shadow over her. "Not if I stop them first."
"Stop them how? More violence? More bloodshed? Jayden, when does it end?"
His silence spoke volumes. For Jayden, there was no end to power, control, and survival.
Victor cleared his throat. "Sir, there's more. We intercepted a message from the Jeon. They have a mole inside our family."
Ryuvyna's eyes widened. "A mole? Someone betrayed you?"
Jayden nodded grimly. "It explains how they knew where to find you today."
The revelation sent a chill through the room. Trust was already a fragile thing in their world, and now it had shattered entirely.
"I'll handle the mole," Jayden said, his tone final. "And Ryuvyna, from now on, you're staying here. Under protection."
"No!" she protested. "You can't keep me locked up like some prisoner."
"It's not up for discussion," Jayden snapped. "This isn't about your freedom. It's about your life."
Frustrated and helpless, Ryuvyna stormed out of the room. She found herself in the garden, the rain had stopped but left the air heavy with moisture. She sank onto a bench, her mind racing.
Her peaceful life was gone, replaced by a whirlwind of danger and secrets. And now, someone within their walls had betrayed them. Who could she trust?
Footsteps approached, and she looked up to see Victor standing a few feet away.
"You shouldn't be out here alone," he said softly, his usual stoic demeanor softened slightly.
Ryuvyna sighed. "I'm not used to being... trapped."
"You're not trapped," he replied. "You're protected. There's a difference."
She studied him for a moment. Victor had always been Jayden's right hand, loyal and unyielding. But even he wasn't above suspicion now.
"Do you think you know who the mole is?" she asked cautiously.
Victor's jaw tightened. "Not yet. But whoever it is... they'll regret it."
Ryuvyna shivered, not from the cold, but from the reality of her situation. As much as she despised her family's violent world, she couldn't ignore the storm brewing around her.
For the first time, she wondered if she'd have to become a part of it to survive.
To be continued...
