Chapter 2| Strange Discretion." Here is your strawberry cupcake with chocolate milkshake," Orea muttered, picked up the tray, and returned to the counter, she picked up yet another order and served it over, then she picked up another, peanut cake with coffee, she couldn't help but scowl, it was hard making the peanut cake, she did hate peanut after all.
" Thank you," the man who ordered it smiled, his gaze on her; if Orea was uncomfortable, she made sure to let it show. The man was handsome, though, and he did look like a gentleman. Orea knew better though; it could be a facade for all she cared
Hours went by, and Alea Sweetness was booming with customers; at her peripheral view, she caught the man speaking to some of their customers; they listened to him, replied to him, and even smiled at him, yet, he would spare her a glance more times than she was comfortable with. Orea only scowled, a whistle sounded behind her, " that is one fine piece of meat," Carol stated.
Scoffing, Orea returned to baking, " I don't know what is so fine about that creep," Carol shook her head, no one could deny that the man wasn't handsome, nothing about him blended with the crowd around, not his handsome chiseled face, his orange-red hair, not his enchanting smile, not his eyes, a mix of blue and grey.
" Well, creep or not, you can't deny the fact that you are attracted to him," Carol countered.
" Attracted my foot," she scoffed, " I have seen better," her lie was accompanied by a shrug, Carol only nodded, though a smirk was right on her face, " don't do anything stupid," Orea warned, earning a napkin being thrown on her face.
Alea Sweetness closed by midnight, Orea was returning home, a box of chocolate cake in her hand, she was heading over to a different neighborhood to deliver it since it wasn't far, she opted for a walk, enjoying the breeze of the chilly night and all, as she arrived at the quiet neighborhood, one covering a large mass of land, with huge houses lined up one after the other.
She checked the paper in her hand again, "House 7," she muttered, as she reached the gate of the house, she stood rooted in her spot, her eyes widening at the view of the large and beautiful house, it took two rings of the doorbell for the door to open, she walked inside, clutching the box of chocolate cake to her.
The interior of the house was a beauty on its own, white walls lined up with paintings of different fields of flowers, portraits of women and so many others she has no name for, she walked further into the house and stood, looking around for the owner of the house, " hello," she called, yet received no response.
" Is anyone here? Mrs Kingsley! Mrs Kingsley? It's the Cafe owner; I am here to drop your cake," she called; no reply, her brow furrowed, and then she heard a loud noise to which she flinched, " what's going on?" She questioned, her voice low, then she gasped, noticing the shadow; it had disappeared a day ago; why was it in the house? It had a menacing look on its face, as well as a smirk, its eyes focused behind Orea.
Orea's breathe turned shallow, shaking, she glanced behind her, but there was nothing, nothing, she released a breath and turned back, only to scream at the shadow right before her, its claws stretched, that did it, she closed her eyes, touched her ring, then with a low breath, she ignored the shadow, walked over to the table beside her and placed the box on it.
" I have left you the box, thank you for patronizing Alea Sweetness, do leave a review when you can, thank you," she said, her voice steady and sweet, then she glared at the shadow who had started laughing, "Goodnight," then she headed for the door, she could have walked around the house and investigated yet, she didn't.
When she did get to the door, it opened by itself to reveal Mrs Kingsley, " Mrs Kingsley?!" Orea frowned, mirroring the old woman.
" How did you get in?" The woman questioned, her old yet beautiful face scrunched up.
" i-I she glanced bac.; I pressed the doorbell,l and the door opened; she replied, I am the owner of Alea Sweetness, the one you ordered a chocolate cake from, " she quickly added, " I am sorry, I didn't know you weren't home," Mrs. Kingsley smiled.
" No worries dear, I remember you, though what I don't know is who opened the door, there's no one in the house, and I stepped out only a few minutes ago," the older woman frowned, glanced at the house in thought, gasped a little, then shook her head," it's alright, you can go" she added, after glancing into the house, Orea glanced back, the shadow was there, still, she turned back to the woman.
" I hope all is right," she questioned, the older woman smiled, shaking her head to which Orea modded, "Goodnight Mrs. Kingsley,"
" Goodnight," she replied, she walked into her home and glanced around a little before locking the door; when Orea walked a little away from the house, she frowned, glanced back at the house, and then shrugged.
" It can't be anything," after convincing herself, she returned to her home.
" Where have you been?!" Ana's loud voice echoed throughout the living room, Orea raised a brow.
" Are you worried about me or what?" Ana snorted. Standing to her feet, she gave Orea a once over.
" As if," after a little pause and hesitation, she questioned. " What's wrong though, you look... Disturbed,"
Orea shrugged, " I just had a little... Weird experience when I went to deliver a package to a customer, it was weird but I am sure it's just me thinking that way," she shrugged off her bag, " it doesn't matter, I need to bath, I smell like sweat and milk," she grimaced.
Ana looked at her with hooded eyes for a while, then she grabbed her hand, "If I were you, I wouldn't go back to that place again, dangerous things happen when you least expect it, so stay clear of that place,"
Orea nodded, " Thanks," she flashed her a smile, then made her way to her room. " I am never going back there again, definitely not after tonight,"
Oh, how wrong she was.
