The sunlight streamed through the windows, sharp and relentless, pulling me from restless sleep. My eyes shot open, and a sinking realization gripped me. I whipped my head toward the clock.
"Perfect. We're late," I muttered under my breath, throwing off the covers and springing to my feet.
There was no time to waste. I strode across the room, grabbing Grey by the arm and hauling him out of bed. He groaned, still deep in sleep. Arkane was next—her small form curled up in the box she insisted on using as her personal haven. I scooped her up without hesitation. They didn't stir, but waking them up wasn't my priority right now.
We had to get to Cyrus. Now.
Focusing my mana, I activated Sukuna's marks. Power surged through me, amplifying my strength as I hoisted both of them—one in each arm. My mana flowed into the Aetherwalk rune, its familiar energy wrapping around us like a protective cocoon. The spell turned us intangible, the world shimmering and bending around us. It was a delicate balance; I had to ensure our clothes didn't catch fire from the wind resistance, especially since neither of them could shield themselves while unconscious.
Channeling the King's Gambit, I launched into the sky. The ground blurred beneath us, the wind roaring past. Every ounce of speed I could muster pushed us forward, the urgency of the moment outweighing the strain on my body.
Within minutes, Cyrus appeared on the horizon. I landed in a controlled burst of energy, the ground cracking slightly beneath my feet. Releasing the Aetherwalk rune and deactivating Sukuna's marks, I unceremoniously dumped Grey and Arkane onto the floor."Get up. Now," I barked, shaking off the lingering hum of mana as I glared down at them. There was no time for grogginess.
Grey groaned as he pushed himself off the ground, brushing dirt off his sleeves. "What the hell, man... Who throws someone like that?" he muttered, wincing as he stood. Arkane, still sprawled nearby, blinked slowly, her expression distant. "Huh...? Where am I?" she murmured groggily, rubbing her eyes.
I smirked. If this didn't wake her up, nothing would. Glancing around to confirm we were alone, I clasped my hands together and focused. "Dismantle!" I shouted, sending a sharp wave of mana slicing through the air straight toward her.
Her reaction was instantaneous. Her crimson eyes flared to life as the Sharingan activated, and in a blur, she dodged to the side, avoiding the strike by a hair's breadth. "WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM?!" she screamed, her voice echoing in the quiet courtyard. I laughed, the sound echoing with satisfaction. "Now you're awake. Come on, sleepyhead. Class is about to start."
Grey sighed, and I noticed his eyes shift, their color deepening into a shimmering gold. "That's your rune activating, right?" I asked as we made our way toward the classroom. "Yeah," he replied, his gaze wandering as if seeing something beyond the ordinary. "I'm still not used to it. So many colors... mana really is beautiful."
We walked in comfortable silence, his words lingering in the air until we reached the classroom. Thankfully, the teacher hadn't arrived yet. With a bit of relief, we quickly settled into our seats, trying to look as though we'd been there the whole time.
The class carried on, as usual, the steady rhythm of lectures filling the room. But a sudden shift in energy came when the door creaked open, and Headmaster Vaughn stepped inside. The room fell silent. This was a rare occurrence—Headmaster Vaughn had never personally entered a classroom before.
