The days following the visit were filled with a newfound sense of calm and joy. Fourth and Gemini had settled into their roles as parents, and though it was exhausting at times, it was also deeply rewarding.
Gemini had taken to singing lullabies softly as Orion drifted off to sleep, his voice carrying a warmth that made Fourth’s chest ache with love every time he heard it. Fourth, in turn, had become a master of diaper changes and late-night bottle prep, his precision and patience honed to perfection.
One evening, as the little family sat in their cozy living room, a knock on the door startled them. Fourth handed Orion to Gemini and went to open the door, only to find Joong standing there, holding a box of takeout.
“Delivery for the sleep-deprived,” Joong quipped, walking in without waiting for an invitation.
“Joong,” Fourth greeted, his tone neutral but not unfriendly. “Didn’t know you were coming by.”
“Spontaneity is my specialty,” Joong replied with a grin. He set the food down on the coffee table and peeked over at Gemini, who was rocking Orion gently. “How’s the littlest member of the family doing?”
“Perfect, as always,” Gemini said with a smile. “Come say hi.”
Joong approached cautiously, as though afraid his usual energy might disturb the baby. He leaned over, his expression softening as he took in Orion’s tiny features. “He’s so small,” he said quietly.
“And he’ll be big before we know it,” Gemini replied, his voice tinged with both pride and sadness at how fleeting these moments felt.
---
As Joong settled in, the conversation turned to Kian.
“He keeps asking when he can see Orion again,” Joong said, taking a bite of his food. “I think he’s more excited about the baby than any of us.”
“That’s because he’s got a big heart,” Gemini said, his voice fond. “Just like his dad.”
Joong smirked, leaning back against the couch. “Are you saying I have a big heart?”
“I was talking about Dunk,” Gemini shot back, earning a laugh from Fourth.
Joong feigned offense but let it slide, his mind wandering for a moment. He thought about Dunk and the tentative truce they seemed to have reached. It wasn’t perfect—there were still layers of history and misunderstandings to unpack—but it was progress.
---
Meanwhile, Kian was at home with Dunk, who had taken the day off from work to spend time with his son.
“Dad,” Kian said as he played with his toys, “when can we see baby Orion again?”
“Soon,” Dunk replied, sitting cross-legged on the floor beside him. “But you have to be patient, Kian. Babies need a lot of rest.”
Kian nodded thoughtfully. “Okay. But can I bring him a drawing next time? Maybe he’ll like it.”
“I think that’s a great idea,” Dunk said, smiling softly.
As Kian set to work on his drawing, Dunk’s thoughts drifted to Joong. Despite their rocky past, there was a part of him that admired how Joong had thrown himself into parenthood. It was clear that Kian adored him, and Dunk couldn’t deny that Joong’s love for their son was genuine and unwavering.
---
The next time they visited, Dunk carried Kian into Fourth and Gemini’s home, the little boy clutching a carefully drawn picture of a star with “Orion” written across it in colorful letters.
“Look, Uncle Fourth!” Kian exclaimed, holding up his drawing as soon as they entered. “It’s for the baby!”
Fourth crouched down, examining the drawing with a warm smile. “This is amazing, Kian. Orion’s going to love it.”
Gemini, who was sitting on the couch with Orion in his arms, beamed at the gesture. “You’re the best big cousin already.”
Kian puffed up with pride, and Joong, who had arrived shortly after, couldn’t resist snapping a picture.
As the adults settled in, the atmosphere was light and filled with laughter. Joong and Dunk even managed to share a few civil exchanges, though they still avoided talking about the more complicated parts of their past.
---
Later that evening, after everyone had left and the house was quiet again, Fourth and Gemini sat together, their hands intertwined as they watched Orion sleep.
“We’re lucky,” Gemini murmured, resting his head on Fourth’s shoulder.
Fourth kissed the top of his head, his heart full. “Yeah, we are.”
As the little family drifted into the peace of the evening, they knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together—with love, laughter, and the unwavering support of their growing family.
