It was late on a Friday night, and the usually quiet Phuwin found himself dragged to a party by his project group. He wasn’t a fan of loud music, flashing lights, or the rowdy atmosphere, but he had reluctantly agreed, figuring it would be easier to endure one evening than deal with their incessant pestering.
He kept to himself in a corner of the room, nursing a soda while scrolling through his phone. The crowd around him swayed to the beat of the music, and he mentally calculated how long he had to stay before making an inconspicuous exit.
That was when he spotted him.
Pond.
Phuwin blinked, certain his eyes were deceiving him. But there he was, sitting on the lap of a stranger—a guy with an annoyingly charming smile and an arm casually draped around Pond’s waist.
Pond looked tipsy, his cheeks flushed and his laughter bright as he leaned into the stranger’s chest. The sight made Phuwin’s stomach churn in a way he didn’t quite understand.
Phuwin’s grip tightened around his drink, his knuckles turning white. He wasn’t sure what irritated him more—the stranger’s smug grin or the fact that Pond didn’t seem to mind being so close to him.
He tried to look away, to convince himself it didn’t matter, but his eyes kept drifting back to them.
“Having fun?” one of his groupmates asked, pulling him out of his thoughts.
“No,” Phuwin said curtly, brushing past them.
Before he could think it through, his feet were carrying him toward Pond.

“Pond,” Phuwin said, his voice sharper than he intended.
Pond turned his head, blinking in surprise. “Phuwin? What are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” Phuwin replied, his gaze flicking to the stranger. “Who’s this?”
The stranger raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. “Name’s Nate. And you are?”
“Not interested,” Phuwin said coldly, his attention back on Pond.
Pond giggled, clearly tipsy. “Relax, Phuwin. Nate’s just a friend.”
Phuwin’s jaw tightened. “Doesn’t look like it.”
“Jealous, are we?” Nate teased, leaning back as if to make himself more comfortable.
Phuwin ignored him, focusing on Pond. “You shouldn’t be sitting on random people’s laps, Pond. It’s not safe.”
Pond pouted, tilting his head. “Why do you care? You said we’re not friends, remember?”
Phuwin froze, the words hitting him like a punch to the gut. He hadn’t expected Pond to throw that back at him, and he certainly hadn’t expected it to sting as much as it did.
“I just…” Phuwin hesitated, his voice softer now. “I don’t want you getting hurt.”
Pond’s expression wavered, and for a moment, he looked at Phuwin with something unreadable in his eyes. But then he shrugged, flashing a lopsided grin.
“I can take care of myself, Phuwin,” he said, standing up. He swayed slightly, and Phuwin instinctively reached out to steady him.
“See? Totally fine,” Pond said, laughing.
Phuwin sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re grumpy,” Pond retorted, poking him in the chest.
“Let me take you home,” Phuwin said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Pond blinked, surprised by the firmness in his voice. Then he smiled, leaning slightly against Phuwin.
“Fine,” he said softly. “But only because you’re cute when you’re all serious.”
Phuwin rolled his eyes, but his cheeks flushed at the comment. As he led Pond out of the party, he couldn’t help but glance back at Nate, who was watching them with an amused smirk.
Phuwin’s chest tightened, and he silently vowed never to let Pond get that close to someone else again.
