That went well. Alice whispered, quietly laughing in my head.

Ugh, why did you stop me from punching his ridiculous face?

Like I said before, you need to relax. Alice reminded me.

I'm fine. I curled my fingers into a fist.

"Are you alright, Y/N?" Komui asked, breaking my conversation with Alice.

I sat up a little straighter. "Oh, uhh yes. I was just talking to Alice." Komui's office was a mess of papers. I couldn't begin to understand how there were so many. I sweatdropped as I thought of how many important notices I was making illegible by stepping on them.

Komui pushed some papers to the side. "Yes, about that, what is your Innocence?"

"Excuse me?"

"Well to start off, your Innocence has a personality of its own, which leads me to the idea that she has her own mind. You were talking to her just now, right?"

"Yes," I replied. "My Innocence developed a Persona that allowed it to communicate with me and her name is Alice." I added after hearing her hiss.

"Perhaps you can show me what your Innocence is capable of?" He placed his chin on his hands. "It's alright if you still can't activate it now."

Can I Alice?

Sure, go ahead. You're capable of handling my power.

I unwrapped the soiled bandages. "Innocence Activate." The crystals glowed. "Sword of Butterfly." The crystals merged together, and my hair was suddenly blown by an unseen current. Komui was surprised by the transformation, and lifted his chin from its comfortable position. I inspected the weapon, noting that they looked a little longer and shaper.

"My Innocence has left my body and has been modified into the swords. They're like normal swords, but designed to destroy Akuma." I threw a sword up in the air, watching the blade.

"When I use these, my energy is still drained, but at a lower pace. If my Innocence is damaged, I feel the pain as if it is still within me." I caught the sword and placed both of them on my lap.

"So your Innocence is the parasite type, right?"

"Yes."

"One question. When you say, 'my energy is drained but at a lower pace', what do you mean by that?" Komui's glasses flashed. "Is there something else your Innocence is capable of?"

I nodded grimly. "My Innocence has another power. It's my main power, but also risky."

A red orb appeared beside me. "It's called Reject. We can reject anything, including memories and feelings."

Is this.. Your physical form? I asked hesitantly.

No, of course not. Alice replied in my head. Let's just say that this is my... 'Orb form'; I appear this way so that your energy won't be drained so much.

"And you must be Alice," Komui addressed the red orb. "Is this your physical for-"

"No, Y/N over here already asked me that." Alice replied as casually as possible. She laughed mentally at the coincidence.

Oh hush, Alice. I thought to her, but I couldn't help but smile a little at Komui's confused face.

"I take it you to have private conversations?" The red orb moved up and down, almost like a nod.

"Interesting..." Komui went serious. "If you can reject anything, does that mean you can reject the existence of someone in this world?"

The orb shook its head. "Rejecting the existence of Akuma is all we can do."

"When I use 'Reject' otherwise, I can only change the location of an object or person." I explained.

"I see." Komui looked at the orb. "Your sudden appearance is quite surprising. Do you have an actual physical structure?" The orb nodded.

I decided to change the topic. "When my Innocence evolved, Alice was able to take physical form. But it doesn't change the sacrifice I need to make when I use my power."

Alice got the hint and went with it. "You've seen it, haven't you? The coughing? The exchange for Reject is blood. Y/N cannot reject her pain nor her feelings. She can only use reject on everything but herself."

Komui's coffee cup clattered on the desk. "So the more you use your Innocence, the closer you are to death?"

"I won't die easily, Komui. You're saying like I haven't been alive these two years. It's the pain that I have to endure, not the blood loss." I deactivated and my forearms once again had crystals sticking out. "Usually..." I muttered, catching Komui's raised eyebrow.

"May I ask you one thing, Komui?"

He nodded.

"The redheaded Exorcist with an eyepath... what's his name? Lavi?"

"Yes." Komui said, confused. "Is he the one who told you about the Black Order?" I nodded.

"Huh. I didn't think Lavi would've told you."

"Why not?"

"Well, he is a Bookman in training. Bookman record the wars and major events that has occurred. Lavi and Bookman came here to record the war between demons and mankind." My nerves jumped. So what was Lavi doing at my hometown?

"Would you like to be an Exorcist, Y/N?" Komui said unexpectedly. I looked at him in doubt, seeing his face serious. "I heard from Lenalee that you stated that you were 'not an Exorcist'."

I sighed. "You're not giving me a choice, are you Komui?"

"It's up to you. The path of an Exorcist is not easy. Your Innocence would be much help in our war with the Earl."

"The Earl huh." I let the thought sink in. An Exorcist. Me, in a war about the Earl.

My fingernails pierced my palms as I remembered what I heard from some Akumas. The Earl, official maker of Akumas, turning a human's grief into a weapon. Becoming an Exorcist wasn't part of the plan.

Then what exactly are you here for? A voice whispered in my mind. A pathetic excuse; revenge on him? Your 'beloved'? You should really learn how the world works, Y/N. I clenched my teeth. Who was this voice inside my head? I certainly wasn't Alice, or Brother.

That's right, remember him? The voice cackled. The Earl's the one responsible for making him into a killing machine. My fingernails dug deeper into my skin.

Just say yes.

I swallowed my pride and opened my mouth.

"I accept your offer," I locked my eyes with Komui, my voice cold and flat. "I will become an Exorcist to defeat the Earl." Alice mentally grinned at my decision and Komui's face relaxed.
