Deak's P.O.V.

I looked at Y/N, softening my eyes. I understood how emotional humans were; Y/N was crying before. But they could become too emotional... I didn't want her to become an Akuma. Not under my watch. If Panda asks where I was, I'll tell him I that got lost. He'd probably hit me though.

I listened to Y/N talk about her brother, whom she missed. Her voice hardened when she got to the reason. She doesn't seem to like that woman, despite the good qualities she mentioned about her.

"He probably wanted to be with someone with good qualities." I hesitantly laughed, scratching my head. She glared at me.

"And apparently, I don't have any." I sweardropped. I swear she wanted to kill me with the rock beside her.

I cleared my throat. "So umm how are things without your brother?"

Y/N's hazel eyes got sad. She whispered the dark events that followed after her brother's departure. She hugged her knees, which made her seem small in comparison to me. Y/N continued talking about her distress and mentioned something about her sister's death. This put me on high alert.

"What happened?" I asked cautiously.

"After mom and dad were divorced, mom got very sick. She didn't mention it to me, but she was already pregnant and stayed at home all day. With Brother gone, we barely had enough food to have on the table and I couldn't make anything to sell on the streets. So, my grandpa nearly worked himself to death." Y/N's expression got dark.

"When the baby was born, the household was happy again. I watched over her, like Brother did to me. Grandpa liked her and worked himself harder for her, to make sure that she had a happy life in our poor state. But one day, she caught a really bad cold. We didn't have enough money for a doctor and grandpa turned to our neighbor desperately. He everything he could, but my sister died in the end. Grandpa was hit hardest by her death."

Y/N teared up. "Do you miss her?" I asked, with a tinge envy. I would never be able experience my emotions and feelings. But emotions lead to sadness and longing for the dead, which leads to the creation of more Akuma.

"No, not really. It's just that I cared so much about her, and then she just suddenly died. I blame myself for not being able protecting her more." Y/N sobbed softly in her hands. This was dangerous. I needed to watch over her family without Bookman noticing. But the problem is, he notices almost everything.

"Y/N, stop crying." I tugged her arms a little. They gave away and I pulled her hands away from her face. She blinked. "Don't blame yourself, Y/N. God was testing you. You need to show him your strength." She shook her head and let it hang.

"Hey, your sister was happy being with you, right? You protected her the best you could and that's good enough. I'm sure she's in heaven, happy and thankful of your effort to protect her." Y/N looked up.

"Really?" She whispered with so much hope. I burned my heart. I nodded. She smiled and I wiped away her tears before I could stop myself.

"Try to think of lighter and happier things, okay?" I said, giving her a small smile.

"Okay." She said, the sadness on her face clearing up.

We talked about some random things after that. I would tell her my jokes and she laughed, commenting at how stupid they were. I challenged her to come up with a better one. She thought for a while, looking at the horizon. Then she grinned. mischievously.

"Close your eyes." She said, her eyes mischievous.

"What are you-" Y/N leaned forward and quickly kissed my cheek where the rock hit me. Her lips were soft and it nurtured the sting. I looked away, my face heating up. Y/N smiled and laughed, sweet and melodic. I looked at her in shock and embarrassment.

"Please don't do that again." I murmured.

"But it was a good one, wasn't it?" Y/N cocked her head to one side, looking at me with innocent eyes. "It was my first time though. But it was worth it. Your face was priceless." She laughed like crazy. My face heated up again. Why am I blushing at a place like this?

"Ahem, let's move onto a different subject..." Y/N grinned but went along. She talked about the fun memories she had with her Brother.

She told me about the times she made mitarashi dango with her brother just to make a little more money. Once, her brother mixed the flour a little too fast and his face got covered in it. I looked at Y/N the whole time, nodding. She was a mischievous girl, with a good personality and a love for skipping rocks and cooking. My thoughts crept into the forbidden zone. I found her attractive, and thinking about her nearly made me blush again. Her hazel eyes caught the sun, reflecting her joy. Her black raven hair smo- No, I was a Bookman. I had to stop thinking about her. NO EMOTIONS DEAK.

But listening to Y/N made me think about myself. Was being a Bookman what I really wanted? I cleared that thought.

"Hey Deak." Y/N said, looking at the rock in front of her. "Why do you think Brother left me?" Oh shit, how am I suppose to answer? I didn't have any experience with this. What if I mess up?
