Chapter 5 - Mother, may I?

   When I was younger, my real mother teached me how to play "Mother, may I?". It wasn't exactly a funny game for me, always following boring rules for nothing, however they were actually useful for us to get to the end line...

Day 5

   - Wake up, Oliver! It is now 4 am! Mother is already sleeping! It is time to go to the children's room! - Said Leonard.
   Alicia was still sleeping. We didn't want to wake her up... Leonard blocked the camera's view with some of his clothes and both of us went to Alex's bed.
   - Hey! Alex! - I whispered.
   - Mommy, I miss you... - He said.
   - Alex! - I repeated.
   - Uh? - He said while getting up. - What do you want for me? I can't even see the sunlight.
   - We need to ask you a favour.
   - What is it? - He asked.
   - You're going to pretend to go to the bathroom while Mother Gabby is busy giving us our classes. Instead of going anywhere else, you're going to go get everything you think is important from Mother's Office. Got it?
   - Yes! But now let me meet my mother again... - He said, returning to sleep.
Me and Leonard came back to our beds, until the sunlight...

   "Run! You gotta run! This is the first time you're doing something like this! So don't look back! Believe in your instincts! Believe in yourself! Believe in..."

   - TIME TO WAKE UP! - Said Mother.
   - Good Morning, Everyone! - Said Alicia.
   - Only for you... - Said Leonard.
   Resuming the plan, when Alex comes back with the photos, he will give them to Alicia and she will hide in the entrance room. I'll be distracting Mother Gabby. Since Leonard has a good aim, he will throw random stones that were in the floor of the playground to a random car, with the help of Alicia's instructions. They will try to communicate with the walkie talkies from the technology room. Mother usually lets us play with them, so you can give hints while playing hide and seek. Gloria told Alicia she could give her 2 of them. When the stone hits one car, Alicia will alert Leonard. The owner of the car has 70% probability of entering here to complain about the damage. Mother Gabby will probably say it was a misunderstanding and that it wasn't anyone from the Orphanage. Alicia will take advantage and, when the owner isn't paying attention, she will put the photos in his pocket, bag or anywhere else. The owner, furious, will go to the police. Then, we just have to hope they notice the photos before leaving the police station.
   - Did you understand the plan? - I asked.
   - Yup! - They agreed.
   The three of us went to the classroom, waiting for Mother. We were so confident the plan would get us free from this place! Until she entered the room...
   - Leonard! Why were your pants hanging in the hallway's surveillance camera?
   - It was? - He asked. - I have no idea mother!
   - What were you doing awake at 4 pm? The time that those pants were put right there... - She asked.
   - I swear, mother! It isn't fair! It wasn't me! - He implored.
   - Enough of your excuses! - She said. - You're getting grounded!
   Crap! I can't believe we lost someone important from the plan! Who is going to throw the stones while I distract Mother? Can I do everything at once? No... What about Julian? No... He said he wouldn't misbehave again... I don't know what to do...
   - Sorry for the chaos, my children! What if we play "Mother, may I"? - Said Mother.
   Wait... Why doesn't she want to stay in the classroom today? Did she discover the plan? Oh my Lord, what the hell is happening?
   And there we went...
   - Mother, may I do two jumps? - Asked Julian.
   - Yes, you may! - She said
   - Mother, may I sprint to the finish line? - Asked Alicia.
   - No, you may not! - She replied.
   - Mother, may I go to the toilet? - Asked Julian.
   - No, you may not! - She said. - You can only leave once you reach the finish line!
   That's when I realized that we could use her rules against her.
   - Try to be one of the firsts reaching the finish line. I'll be one of the last ones. If you do this, then you can execute the plan without Mother Gabby knowing. I think she isn't expecting a plan by only one person.
   - But what about Auntie Savannah?
   - Steal someone's toy and hide it. I guess Savannah's sympathy will make her help the kid searching for their toy.
   - Oh! I can't steal one of our brother's toys! - She said.
   - It's not stealing. Pretend you're only borrowing it for a game, but without asking their permission... I guess they wouldn't mind.
   - I am going to regret this! - She said. - But what about Leonard?
   - We'll save him once the police know about the Orphanage. - I explained.
   - Okay! I'll only do this because I owe you one! - She said.
   - Thank you, but now let's end this game!
   - Mother, may I jump like a kangaroo? - Asked Alicia.
   - Yes, you may!
   - Mother may I take one step back? - I asked.
   - Yes, you may!
   After some time, Julian reached the finish line. He was the first one. The second place belonged to Bradley. And, in third place, Alicia. I was counting on her! She can do this. I kept playing without knowing anything about Alicia. I would guess we would've been playing for 2 hours. There was only me, someone from our room and someone from the kids' room. Everything went down when Auntie Savannah interrupted the game:
   - Mother Gabby! I need to talk with you, about a serious kid! - She said.
   - What happened? - Mother Gabby asked.
   - Someone entered your Office while I was searching for a toy! I can't find them!
   Could they be talking about Alicia?
   - Follow me! I know how to find them! We just need to lock the doors! - Said Mother. - My children. We'll finish the game when I come back!
    She locked the door!
   What? How am I supposed to help Alicia now? It's two against one! I need to find a way out of here! As fast as possible! I'm counting on you Alicia.

P.S.: If you need to create a plan. Always create a backup plan. This will help you if you fail the first one, because you will always have another chance.
