Chapter 7 - The Love of a Family

   The human being is a funny species. They don't thank anyone for what they have... Remember the conversation about the "rare things"? What's rare to you? Rare... Is it something hard to find? But nowadays, simple thanks are rare... But is the word "thanks" hard to say?... I don't think so... If there is something I missed in the past few days is the Love of a Family. So try and say thanks to them, for being present in the tough moments, maybe read my diary with them. If I could say anything to my mom, it would be something like this: " Thanks mom, for making me the man I am today. For teaching me how to be good. For another one hundred million reasons...
   Thanks.
   For everything.

   - Mother, what are you doing here? - Asked Mother Gabby.
   - Oh! Turns out you are using my teaching method, the one that you hated so much... - Said her mother.
   - I don't...
   - No excuses, young lady! I already called the cops on the Orphanage! You're going to be where you always deserved to be... - Said Gabby's Mother.
   - Don't talk with her like that! She's my mother and I don't care what you might say she will always be! - Protected Alicia.
Mother Gabby looked at her:
   - Alicia, there's no need. I gotta pay for my past mistakes... It was nice to take care of you for the past sixteen years...
   - No mother, don't say that! You're making me sad... - Cried Alicia. - I know... You've made mistakes, but everybody does it...
   - There are problems without a solution... - Said Gabby. - And stop treating me like your Mother! I don't deserve it!
   - Stop Mother! I still want you!
   - Alicia... Don't cry...
Alicia ran towards her and gave her a big hug. Leonard was speechless, but he hugged her too...
   - At least you have someone who wants you... - Replied Gabby's mother.
   - You're very wrong, mam! Gabby teached me a lot of things... She has her own way to teach... Every kid here loves her! I can see it in their eyes.
Mother let go of Alicia and Leonard.
   - Oliver, just like I said... There's no use! The cops are already out there.
   - Mother, you promise to write us letters right? - Asked Alicia.
   - I don't know... I've never been in a prison before... I'm afraid of it...
   Gabby's mother left the Orphanage. The three continued hugging her... We knew they were going to be our last moments with her... I felt guilt inside of my veins... It was all because of my plan... My stupid plan... I was selfish, I was only thinking about myself... I guess Mother's feeling guilty too...
   The police entered and Mother Gabby was taken. Alicia and Leonard were both crying... Drowning the floor with tears...
That's how I lost my second mother...

Day 13

   It happened a week ago. The news was spread throughout the whole city: "Three orphans reveal the truth about her Orphanage's Mother". Savannah was now the mother... The mood was different... Kinda better... Me, Alicia and Leonard tried not to make the kids worried. I loved the fact that Savannah noticed it and actually helped us psychologically and emotionally...

   - Hello, Oliver! Why are you so quiet today? - Asked Alicia. - You're always showing me your diary or asking me for details...
   - So you noticed...
   - Noticed what?
   - Listen, I didn't know how to say this but... I am getting adopted tomorrow...
   - You're what?...
   - Remember my best friend Emma? I am going to be her new brother...
   - You're leaving us too?...
I hugged Alicia.
   - Listen, I'm still going to be your brother!
   - Promise?
   - Of course I do! Here! You can have my phone number! If you need anything just text me...
   - Does Leo know yet?
   - No... Do you mind telling him for me... I'm not that good at handling sad stuff...
   - Okay, I'll do it for you... And you can count on me too...
   I could tell she was holding her tears, but I just stood there, watching my siblings playing on the playground.
The last day...

The Last Day

   I woke up, just like I used to do... I took a bath, just like I used to do... However, today I didn't dress my Orphanage's Uniform... I was ready to go.
   - Goodbye Alicia! Goodbye Leonard! - I said... Holding my tears too...
   - Wait, we are coming with you to the Entrance. - Said Leonard.
When we arrived. Emma wasn't still at the entrance, so we took the chance to give our last talk... I hugged both of them.
   - I'm going to miss you guys... - I said.
   - We're going to miss you too! - Said Alicia. - I'm trying hard not to cry right now...
   - You can cry if you want... - I told her.
   - I'm not sad... I'm happy for you! - She laughed. - I can't believe you were only here for 14 days, and I have been here for 6026 days...
   - You've been counting them? - I asked.
   - I've made my calculations! - She asked. - I was born 16 years ago, 5th of April.
   - I'll try not to forget your birthday! - I said. - When is yours Leo?
   - 18th of May...
Suddenly, Emma's mother arrived with her.
   - Look! They're here! - I said.
   - Oh! She's pretty! - Said Alicia.
   Mother Savannah arrived at the entrance and let Emma's mother sign the adoption papers. I said my farewells to Emma and Leonard.
   Until someday...

   When I arrived at Emma's car the first conversation we had was about school.
   - So... Do you know that David started dating Victoria?
   - Oh no! You're kidding, right?
   - No, I'm not! That's so strange! He was always telling her " You're ugly " or " You stink ". Nobody was thinking about this plot twist in the story of that school. Anyways... I heard about Lady Gabby. Was she that bad?
   - She had a difficult past... Her reactions were a reflection of her own mother's attitude. But, I prefer not to talk about it! Emma's mother, may we go out for lunch please?
   - Oliver, please call me Mother. - Said Emma's mother. - And yes, we may...
That "yes, we may" was a little familiar, or maybe it's just something from my head...
